Co-labhairt san Eilean Sgitheanach mu àrainneachd

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Dòmhnall Angaidh Moireasdan - Preseantair] Nise, chuala co-labhairt san Eilean Sgitheanach air an deireadh sheachdain mu na dòighean far an urrainn do mhac an duine a bhith tighinn beò gun a bhith dèanamh cron air an àrainneachd. A bharrachd air seiseanan air croitearachd agus blàthachadh na cruinne, bha comhairle ann cuideachd air àite na Gàidhlig san àrainneachd agus fiù 's còmhradh nan eun, mar a tha Alasdair MacLeòid ag aithris.

[Alasdair MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] ’S iomadh co-labhairt gan deach mi thairis air na bliadhnaichean, feadhainn aca gu barrachd feum na feadhainn eile ach cha chreid mi nach biodh gach aon ac’ na b’ fheàrr nam biodh seo an dòigh a bhiodh ann airson daoine a thoirt còmhla gu òraid eile no gu biadh.

[Alasdair MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] B’ e seo cruinneachadh do mu cheud gu leth duine aig Rubha Phòil ann an Slèite anns an Eilean Sgitheanach air perma-cultar – dòigh air a bhith beò gun chron ga dhèanamh air an àrainneachd timcheall. Le aire tòrr air blàthachadh na cruinne agus sealladh fhaighinn mun chùis bho dhaoin’ òg’.

[Holly] For the last six months, I ve been school striking for the climate outside my school every Friday for an hour. The planet we live on is being destroyed by our way of living and we need to take action now, so that’ s why I started school striking.

[Alasdair MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Am measg na diofar chlasaichean is deasbadan a bh’ ann bho fheasgar Dihaoine gu Là na Sàbaid, bha seisean ann mu àite na Gàidhlig is anns an àrainneachd.

[Janni Diez] Bidh mise a’ bruidhinn mu dheidhinn ainmean-àite agus mar a tha iad a’ nochdadh air clàr-dùthcha. ’S gu tric, tha ùidh aig daoine ann an ainmean Gàidhlig. Tha iad airson faighinn a-mach dè tha iad a’ ciallachadh, dè tha iad ag innse dhuinn mu dheidhinn an tìr.

[Alasdair MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] A bharrachd air cainnt nan Gàidheal, bha cuideachd clas ann air a bhith a’ tuigsinn cò mu dheidhinn a tha na h-eòin agus na h-iseanan a’ bruidhinn.

[Ludwig Appeltans] We use a lot of bird language in our observations in permaculture because birds, they talk to each other about a lot of stuff that’ s happening in the forests that we’ re not aware of. If we are angry that they the birds will respond differently towards us and it’ s like a mirror that reflects back to how we are behaving in the forest and then that’ s an invitation to adapt our behaviour so we cause less disruption in nature.

[Alasdair MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Ged a tha e furasta a bhith dubhach mu bhlàthachadh agus truailleadh na cruinne, tha coltas ann gu bheil piseach a’ tighinn air gnothaichean co-dhiù shìos an rathad aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

[Janni Diez] Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil na h-oileanaich a tha againne agus an luchd-obrach gu math mothachail air an àrainneachd, tha sinn air a bhith a’ dèanamh feasgaran le clann a’ glanadh an tràigh no tha daoine gu math mothachail air sgudal is plastaig is an àrainneachd, gnothaichean mar sin is mhothaich mi gu sònraichte am-bliadhna gu bheil an cuspair a’ sìor-fhàs ann am mothachadh dhaoine.

[Ludwig Appeltans] Keeping the spirits up, it’s a very encouraging event because there’ s lots of like-minded people and there’ s lots of support and friendly faces and lots of kids around that gives hope for the future.

[Alasdair MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Adhbharan airson dragh a bhith ann gun teagamh ach cha do chùm siud na daoine seo bho dheireadh-seachdain dha-rìribh a bhith aca. Alasdair MacLeòid, BBC An Là, Slèite.

Conference in the Isle of Skye about the environment

English Beurla
<

[Donald Angie Morrison - Presenter] Now, a conference on the Isle of Skye on the weekend heard about the ways that humans can be alive without harming the environment. In addition to sessions on crofting and global warming, there was also advice on Gaelic’s place in the environment and even birdsong as Alasdair MacLeod reports.

[Alasdair MacLeod – Reporter] I’ve been to many conferences over the years, some of more use that others, but I do believe that every one of them would be better if this was the manner that was used to bring people together to another lecture or to a meal.

[Alasdair MacLeod – Reporter] This was a gathering of about 150 people at Rubha Phòil in Sleat in the Isle of Skye on permaculture – a way to live without damaging the surrounding environment. With lots of attention on global warming and getting views about the matter from young people.

[Holly] For the last six months, I ve been school striking for the climate outside my school every Friday for an hour. The planet we live on is being destroyed by our way of living and we need to take action now, so that’ s why I started school striking.

[Alasdair MacLeod – Reporter] Amongst the different classes and debates between Friday afternoon to Sunday, the was a session about Gaelic and the environment.

[Janni Diez] I will be talking about place names and how they appear on a map. And often, people are interested in Gaelic names. They want to find out what they mean, what they tell us about the land.

[Alasdair MacLeod – Reporter] In addition to the language of the Gaelic, there was also a class to understand how the birds and chicks speak.

[Alasdair MacLeod – Reporter] Although it is easy to be gloomy about global warming and pollution, it would appear that improvements are coming on matters anyway down the road at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

[Janni Diez] I think tha the students that we have and the staff are very aware of the environment, we’ve been doing afternoons with children with children cleaning the beach or people are very aware of rubbish and plastic and the environment, things like that, and I noticed especially this year that the matter is growing exponentially in people’s awareness.

[Ludwig Appeltans] Keeping the spirits up, it’s a very encouraging event because there’ s lots of like-minded people and there’ s lots of support and friendly faces and lots of kids around that gives hope for the future.

[Alasdair MacLeod – Reporter] Reasons to be concerned without a doubt but that didn’t stop these people from having a great weekend. Alasdair MacLeod, BBC An Là, Sleat.
