Talla-ciùil Inbhir Nis ann an cunnart

[Karen Elder - Preseantair] Tha trì fichead cosnadh ann an cunnart an seo an Inbhir Nis, ma ’s e agus gun dùin fear de phrìomh àiteachan-chiùil air a’ Ghàidhealtachd. Tha a’ chompanaidh Bricks Capital airson togalach an IronWorks anns a’ bhaile a leigeil agus taigh-òsta spaideil a chur na àite. Ged a tha na planaichean aig ìre gu math tràth, bha iad airson innse do chomhairlichean Gàidhealach na tha san amharc aca. Ged nach eil iad a’ sireadh cead dealbhachaidh fhathast. Seo Eileen NicDhòmhnaill.

[Eileen NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bho Travis gu Niteworks gu Ocean Colour Scene, ’s iomadh còmhlan a th’ air an àrd-ùrlar a ghabhail anns an Ironworks, ach dh’fhaodadh nach bi duine a’ cluich ceòl anns an togalach a tha seo ann am meadhan baile Inbhir Nis an ceann beagan bhliadhnaichean.

[Emma NicLaomainn] Chan eil àiteachan-ciùil mòr mar sin air a’ Ghàidhealtachd, ’s urrainn còrr is mìle neach a bhith am broinn Ironworks agus tha fios a’m gu bheil àiteachan mar Eden Court ann, ach ’s e àite-ciùil gu math, gu math diofraichte a th’ ann. An t-uabhas còmhlain air a bhith a’ nochdadh ann an Ironworks thairis air na bliadhnaichean agus tha e math gu bheil e air a’ Ghàidhealtachd. Chan eil e cho fada air falbh ri Glaschu, tha e faisg air làimh do dhaoine.

[Eileen NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Dh’fhaodadh gun atharraich sin ge-tà, tha a’ chompanaidh, Bricks Capital, son taigh-òsta a thogail. Bhiodh ochd fichead leabaidh na chois. An-diugh dh’innse iad do chomhairlichean na Gàidhealtachd mu dheidhinn na planaichean aca. Chan eil iad a’ sireadh cead dealbhachaidh fhathast ge-tà, ach chaidh athchuinge a chur air dòigh an-aghaidh na planaichean aca.

[Ruairidh Greumach] Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gur e dòcha ceum air ais a bhiodh e airson a’ bhaile, Inbhir Nis ma bhios iad a leigeil an IronWorks. Uill, ’s e fear de na prìomh, prìomh àiteachan airson cluich ma tha thu nad chòmhlain. Chan e a-mhàin air a’ Ghàidhealtachd ach ann an Alba air fad. Is mar sin, ’s e faireachdainn fìor mhath a th’ ann a bhith ann an àite a tha cho ainmeil is cliùiteach air feadh Alba is a bhith a’ cluich ann an shin. Agus gu bheil am PA siostam fìor mhath cuideachd, so tha thu a’ faireachdainn sin nuair a tha thu a’ cluich.

[Eileen NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha ceangal aig an togalach a tha seo ri eachdraidh a’ bhaile. ’S ann bho ghnìomhachas an iarainn a thàinig ainm. Tha ceangal aig mòran ris an IronWorks fhèin cuideachd bho dh’fhosgail e ann an dà mile ’s a sia. Ach am beachd comhairliche, bidh eaconamaidh an latha an-diugh aig cridhe co-dhùnadh sam bith, co-dhiù, bidh ceòl ri cluinneil ann an sheo.

[An Comh Ailig Greumach] Air aon làimh, tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil e math barrachd àiteachan-fuirich fhaighinn son àite a tha seo, tha fhios a’d, ann an cridhe baile Inbhir Nis, fhios a’d, tha e bang meadhan a’ bhaile, multi-story ri thaobh, tha stèisean bus is stèisean rèile dìreach dà no trì ceud de shlatan air falbh away, so tuigidh tu carson a tha seo uabhasach tarraingeach dha taigh-òsta. Air làimh eile, fhios a’d, tha feum againne cuideachd air, fhios a’d, àite far am faigh sinn cur-seachadan a’ tachairt, far am bi cuirmean-ciùil ann.

[Eileen NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] ’S iomadh sgrìob agus sgeulachd a tha an còis nam ballaichean, cha robh an fheadhainn leis a bheil an IronWorks son dad a chanail mun chùis. ’S e a’ cheist a bhios aig mòran a-nochd ma tha, ma dhùineas dorsan nan IronWorks, càite eile an tèid iad airson cèilidh? Eileen NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là.

Inverness concert venue in danger

[Karen Elder - Presenter] Sixty jobs are in danger here in Inverness, if one of the main music venues in the Highlands closes. The company Brick Capital want to let go of the IronWorks building and put a luxury hotel in its place. Although plans are at a very early stage, they wanted to tell Highland councillors about their vision. Although they aren’t seeking planning permission yet. Here’s Eileen MacDonald.

[Eileen MacDonald - Reporter] From Travis to Niteworks to Ocean Colour Scene, many a band have taken to the stage in the IronWorks, but it might be the case that nobody will be playing music in this hall in the middle of Inverness town centre in a few years.

[Emma Lamont] There aren’t any big music places like that in the Highlands, more than a thousand people can be in the IronWorks and I know that there are places like Eden Court, but it’s a very, very different music place. Lots of bands have appeared in the IronWorks over the years and it is good that it is in the Highlands. It is not as far as Glasgow, it’s close to people.

[Eileen MacDonald - Reporter] That might change though, the company, Bricks Capital, want to build a hotel. There will be 160 beds. Today, they told Highland councillors about their plans. They are not seeking planning permision yet though, but a petition has been set up against their plans.

[Ruairidh Graham] I think it might be a step back for the city, Inverness if they get rid of the IronWorks. Well, it is one of the main, main places to play if you are a band. Not only in the Highlands, but all over Scotland. And as such, it feels really good to be in a place as famous and reknowned in Scotland and to be playing there. And the PA system is really good too, and you feel that when you are playing.

[Eileen MacDonald - Reporter] This building has a connection to to the history of the city. The name came from the iron business. Lots of people have had a conection with the IronWorks since it opened in 2006. But it is the view of a councillor that today’s economy will be at th heart of any decision, anyway, music will be heard here.

[Councillor Alex Graham] On one hand, I think that it’s good to get more places to stay here, you know, in the middle of the city of Inverness, you know, it is bang in the middle of the town, multi-story beside it, there is a bus station and the rail station two or three hundred yards away, so you understand why it’s attractive to a hotel. On the other hand, you know, we also need, you know, a place where we will get activities happening, where we spend time, where there will be concerts.

[Eileen MacDonald - Reporter] Many a scratch and tale associated with these walls, the people who have the IronWorks did not want to say anything about the matter. The question that many have tonight, if the doors close to the IronWorks, where else will they go for a ceilidh? Eileen MacDonald, BBC An Là.
