Bùth-obrach dràma a’ coimhead air cuspairean cudromach

[Angela NicIlleathain - Preseantair] Chumar tachartasan ann an Glaschu gus beachdachadh air an dòigh as fheàrr cùram a thoirt gu daoine a tha a’ fulang le dementia agus a tha dà-chananach. Thàinig luchd-dràma agus eòlaichean còmhla ’son a’ bhùth-obrach air an tuigear ‘Cuimhneachadh Oirnne’. Tha am fear-naidheachd againne Ruairidh MacÌomhair aig an tachartas ann an Oilthigh Srath Chluaidh.

[Ruairidh MacÌomhair – Neach-aithris] Dràma air a chleachdadh mar mhiann gus deasbad a bhrosnachadh mu dhà-chànanachas agus dementia. Cleasaichean a’ taisbeanadh sgeulachd aon teaghlach a’ dèiligeadh ris an tinneas.

[Artair Donald] An-diugh, tha dòchas gum bi puingean a thogail agus tha daoine seo an-diugh luchd-acadaimigeach airson a bhith a’ sgrìobhadh poileasaidhean ùr’ gu h-àraid mu dheidhinn rudan mar coimhead às dèidh dhaoine nuair a tha iad a’ fàs nas miosa agus nuair a tha iad fo chùram mar a chanas NHS agus ’s dòcha can nach bi Gàidhlig aig daoine a tha ag obair an siud.

[Ruairidh MacÌomhair – Neach-aithris] Am measg nan eòlaichean a bha an làthair, bha an dotair, Tòmas Bak, a th’ air bliadhnaichean a chur seachad a’ rannsachadh cùisean timcheall dà-chànanachas.

[Dotair Tòmas Bak ] If we think that dementia is a problem and we have now noticed it becoming much more a problem than people assume as I say sometimes underestimated because of wrong questions they send us. So this is a very, very up-to-date problem. I think in art should be there to address it.

[Ruairidh MacÌomhair – Neach-aithris] Agus tha dòchas ann gun brosnaich an tachartas an-diugh barrachd eòlais is deasbad mun chuspair.

[Dr Aedín Ní Longsigh] Part of the aim today is to raise awareness about this issue. And hopefully for people to see - this matters, this issue matters. And it matters for all the country, it matters for the rest of Scotland because we have immigrant communities as well who, as they age, will encounter this issue as well .

[Ruairidh MacÌomhair – Neach-aithris] A rèir tè a tha eòlach air a bhith a’ cleachdadh Gàidhlig agus ealan le daoine a tha a’ fulang le dementia. Tha barrachd eòlais a dhìth mu na buannachdan a tha ceangailte.

[Magaidh Nic a’ Ghobhainn] Cha chreid mi gu bheil fhios mothachail air aig ìre ùghdarrais sam bith ach tha mi a’ faicinn gu h-àraid aig luchd-frithealaidh anns na dachaighean-cùraim, bhiodh iad ag ràdh “Ò uill, feuch nach bi thu fada gun thighinn a-rithist”, tha mi smaointinn gu bheil iadsan gu math mothachail air.

[Ruairidh MacÌomhair – Neach-aithris] Thathar an dòchas an dealbh-chluich a thoirt air chuairt an ceann ùine agus an taisbeanadh a thoirt chun na Gàidhealtachd air feadh na h-Alba agus a’ Chuimrigh. Ruairidh MacÌomhair, BBC An Là, Glaschu.

A drama workshop looking at important matters

[Angela MacLean - Presenter] Events were held in Glasgow to think of the best way to give care to people who suffer from dementia and are bilingual. Drama people and experts came together for the workshop which was called ‘Remember Us’. Our journalist, Ruairidh MacIver is at the event at Strathclyde University.

[Ruairidh MacIver – Journalist] A drama that is used as a wish to inspire debate about bilingualism and dementia. Actors showcasing a story of a family who deal with the illness.

[Arthur Donald] Today, there is hope that points will be raised and people who are here today, academics, who want to write new policies especially about looking after people when they are getting worse and when they are under care from as they say, the NHS and maybe people don’t have Gaelic who work there.

[Ruairidh MacIver – Journalist] Amongst the experts who were present, Dr Thomas Bak who has spent years researching bilingual surrounding matters.

[Dr Thomas Bak ] If we think that dementia is a problem and we have noticed it becoming much more a problem than people assume as I say sometimes underestimated because of wrong questions they send us. So this is a very, very up-to-date problem. I think in art should be there to address it.

[Ruairidh MacÌomhair – Neach-aithris] And there is hope that this event will inspire more knowledge and debate about the matter.

[Dr Aedín Ní Longsigh] Part of the aim today is to raise awareness about this issue. And hopefully for people to see this matters. And it matters for all the country, it matters for the rest of Scotland as we have immigrant communities as well who, as they age, will encounter this issue as well.

[Ruairidh MacIver – Journalist] According to a woman who is used to be using Gaelic and art with people who are suffering from dementia. There is more knowledge needed about the associated bonuses.

[Maggie Smith] I don’t think there is an awareness at truest level but I see especially the auxiliaries in the care homes, they would say “O, you need to make sure that it won’t be long until you come” again, I think they are very aware.

[Ruairidh MacIver – Journalist] There is hope that the play will be brought on tour in a short while and the show will be brought to the Highlands all over Scotland and Wales, Ruairidh MacIver, BBC An Là, Glasgow.
