Teintean air feadh na Gàidhealtachd

[Dòmhnall Angaidh Moireasdan - Preseantair] Tha luchd-smàlaidh an Eilein Sgitheanaich a’ strì ri teine mòr faisg air tuath-gaoithe an Aodainn Bhàin. Tha e air sgapadh a-steach a’ choille an sin agus thathas an dùil gum bi feum air heileacoptair a chleachdadh son uisge a chur air. Aig a’ cheart àm, tha teine mòr fhathast a’ dol ann am Moireibh le luchd-smàlaidh ag ràdh gu bheil coltas ann gum bi grunn làithean ann fhathast mus tèid e cur às. Le tuilleadh, seo Anndra MacFhionghain.

[Anndra MacFhionghain – Neach-naidheachd] Thoisich teine an-diugh ann an ceann a tuath an Eilein Sgitheanaich faisg air tuath-gaoithe an Aodainn Bhàin. Tha an teine a’ sgapadh a-steach gu coille an sin agus tha sia einnseanan-smàlaidh an làthair. Tha cùisean cho dona is gu bheil an luchd-smàlaidh an dùil gum bi feum air heileacoptair a chleachdadh airson bùrn a chur air. Ach cha b’ e seo an aon teine a bha a’ dol air a’ Ghàidhealtachd an-diugh.

[Anndra MacFhionghain – Neach-naidheachd] Aig aon àm, bha mu trì fichead ’s a deich smàladair faisg oirnne an seo aig Cnoc Cheannachd ann am Moireibh, a’ feuchainn ri na teintean a chur às. Chaidh na seirbheisean-smàlaidh a ghairm beagan ro thrì uairean feasgar Diluain agus tha e coltach gun toir e grunn làithean gus an cur às uile gu lèir. Thuirt na seirbheisean-smàlaidh gur e teine mòr a tha a’ sgapadh gu luath a tha seo.

[Anndra MacFhionghain – Neach-naidheachd] Chaidh an talamh a losgadh gu dona timcheall air tuath-gaoithe Chnoc Phòil, às dèidh mar a sgap na teintean cho luath bho Dhiluain. Aig aon àm, bha ceud smàladair, uile gu lèir, a’ feuchainn ri chur às. Bha fhathast timcheall air trì fichead neach bhon t-seirbheas-smàlaidh an làthair an-diugh agus feagal gun sgap na teintean. Tha na teintean air buaidh a thoirt air fearann thuathanaich agus tha feagal air a bhith ann gun tèid beathaichean a chall. Ach a rèir cuid, ged a tha cunnartan na lùib na teintean, chan e rud gu tur dona a th’ annta.

[Raibeart Dòmhnallach – Aonadh nan Tuathanach] Chan eil na teintean seo, chan eil iad air sian a mhilleadh air a’ mhonadh fhèin. ’S e nuair a thig e a-staigh dha na coilltean agus a-staigh gu faisg air taighean. ’S ann an uair sin a tha cunnart ann’. Agus cuideachd ma thig daoine a ghlacadh anns an teintean sin, faodaidh iad a bhith air an droch lòn. Ach airson am monadh fhèin, gheibh am monadh seachad air. Cha dhèanadh e sian a dhiofar air, in fact, nì e feum dha ge-tà, nàdar a bh’ aig nàdar riamh air na monaidhean a ghlanadh ’s e an teine.

[Anndra MacFhionghain – Neach-naidheachd] Tha teintean mòra air a bhith gu math cumanta air a’ Ghàidhealtachd thairis air na beagan seachdainean a dh’fhalbh is an talamh gu math tioram. Thathas a’ moladh a bhith gu math faiceallach air a’ bhlàir a-muigh, gun a bhith a’ sadail toitean air no a’ losgadh càil sam bith is an t-side tioram seo a’ leantainn.

[Anndra MacFhionghain – Neach-naidheachd] Dìreach air a’ mhìos sa, tha teintean air a bhith a’ losgadh anns na h-Eileanan Siar, anns an Duras agus ann am Fàrr am measg grunn àitean eile air a’ Ghàidhealtachd. Ach dè as urrainn dhuinn a dhèanamh gus na teintean a sheachnadh?

[Raibeart Dòmhnallach – Aonadh nan Tuathanach] Uill, ’s e dìreach a bhith faiceallach agus nuair a thèid thu a-mach dhan a’ mhonadh gun a bhith a’ lasadh teintean agus a bhith dìreach faiceallach do rubbish a thoirt dhachaigh leat agus sùil a chumail a-mach cuideachd, ma chì thu duine sam bith eile a tha a’ dèanamh rudeigin a tha thu a’ smaoineachadh a thoiseachas teine.

[Anndra MacFhionghain – Neach-naidheachd] Anndra MacFhionghain, BBC An Là, ann am Moireibh.

Fires all over the Highlands

[Donald Morrison - Presenter] The Isle of Skye’s firefighters are battling a big fire near to an Edinbane windfarm. It has spread into the forest there. It is expected that a helicopter will be used to put water on it. At the same time, a big fire is still going in Moray with firefighters saying it is likely to be a few days yet until it can be extinguished. With more, here’s Andrew MacKinnon.

[Andrew MacKinnon – Journalist] A fire began today in the north end of the Isle of Skye near a windfarm in Edinbane. The fire has spread to the forest there and six fire engines are present. Matters are so bad that the firefighters expect that there will be a need for a helicopter to be used to put water on it. But this is not the only fire that was happening in the Highlands today.

[Andrew MacKinnon – Journalist] At one time, there were around sixty firefighters near to us here at Knockando in Moray, trying to put the fire out. The fire services were called a little before three o’ clock in the afternoon on Monday afternoon and it would appear that it will take many days to put them all completely out. The fire services said it was a large fire that is spreading quickly here.

[Andrew MacKinnon – Journalist] The ground was burnt badly around a windfarm at Paul’s hill, after the fire spread so quickly from Monday. At one time there was 100 firefighters, in total, trying to put it out. There were still 60 people present today and a fear that that the fires will spread. The fires have had an impact on farm land and there is a fear that animals will be lost. but, according to some, although there are dangers involved in the fires, they are not a bad thing.

[Robert MacDonald – Farmers’ Union] These fires, they have not destroyed anything on the moor itself. It’s when they come in to the forests and in close to houses. Then it is a danger. And also, if people are caught in those fires, they could be badly injured. But for the moor itself, the moor would get over it. It would not make any difference, in fact, it would do it good, the nature that nature has always had to clean the moors, that is the fire.

[Andrew MacKinnon – Journalist] Large fires have been very common in the Highlands over the past few weeks and the ground is very dry. The recommendation is to be very careful outside, don’t throw cigarettes or burn anything as this dry weather is to continue.

[Andrew MacKinnon – Journalist] Just in this month, fires have been burning in the Western Isles, in Dores and in Farr amongst other places in the Highlands. But what can we do to avoid fires?

[Robert MacDonald – Farmers’ Union] Well, just be careful and when you are going out to the moor, don’t be lighting fires and just be careful to take your rubbish home with you and keep an eye out too, if you see anyone else who is doing something you think will start a fire.

[Andrew MacKinnon – Journalist] Andrew MacKinnon, BBC An Là, in Moray.
