Tha dà chopan de bhàrr tiugh agam, tha aon dhiubh dol a’ phana an-dràst’, cuiridh mi an uair sin ann dà chopan is cairteal de shiùcar ruadh shoilleir, leth chopan ìme, trì chairteal chopan de shiorap agus làn spàin-teath’ de shalann, a’ cur seo mun cuairt gus am bi an t-siùcar air leaghadh.

[Griogair] Tha mi an uair sin ga thoirt gu goil, agus a’ cur an còrr dhen bhàrr na mheasg air mo shocair. Tha mi ga chumail a’ goil, suas gu ceud ’s fichead Celsius. Dh’fhaodadh tu sin atharrachadh dhaibhsan a tha dèidheil air tofaidh nas cruaidhe no nas buige.

[Griogair] Bheir mi am pana far an stòbh agus cuiridh mi ceud grama de chnòthan Brazil ann, agus làn spàin-teath’ de bhrìgh vanilla. Dòirt a-mach e air treidhe a chaidh a shuathadh le ìm, agus leig leis cruthachadh airson co-dhiù dà uair a thìde. An uair sin, tha mi ga thionndadh a-mach, air tubhailt-shoitheachain, agus ga bhriseadh.

Gregor’s Brazil nut toffee

English Beurla

[Gregor] I am putting a pot on a relatively hot stove. I have two cups of thick cream, one of them goes in the pan just now, I’ll then put two and a quarter cups of light brown sugar in, half a cup of butter, three quarters of a cup of syrup and a full teaspoon of salt, I stir this until the sugar has melted.

[Gregor] I then bring this to the boil and I put the rest of the cream in carefully. I keep it at the boil, up to 120 Celsius. You could change this for those who like toffee which is harder or softer.

[Gregor] I’ll take the pan from the stove and I’ll add 100 grams of Brazil nuts and a full teaspoon of vanilla essence. Pour it out on a tray which has been rubbed with butter and let it harden for at least two hours of time. Then turn it out on a tea towel and break it up.

[Griogair] Even Barney the dog wants a piece but he’s not getting it.
