Cròileagan Mhàiri

[Preseantair] Ann an dà mhìle ’s a dhà dheug chaidh Alasdair MacAmhlaigh a phòsadh ri co-thional Eaglais Shaor Bhaile Dhubhthaich agus a’ Mhanachainn Rois. A’ chiad choitheanal aige mar mhinistear agus aig Màiri mar bean ministeir.

[Preseantair] Tha bliadhna ann bhon uair sin agus tha iad fhèin agus an triùir chloinne air a bhith a’ dèanamh dachaigh den mhansa agus a’ cur eòlas air coimhearsnachd ùr.

[Preseantair] An-diugh tha Màiri trang le cròileagan Gàidhlig a thòisich i ann an talla na h-eaglaise.

[Màiri] Bha mi rudeigin tàmailteach nuair a thòisich e. Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gur e triùir a nochd agus às dèidh sin ge-tà thòisich e a’ fàs gu math luath agus tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil fichead no aon duine air fhichead agam air an register a-nis.

[Màiri] Bha mi air comhairle fhaighinn mus tàinig mi dhan chiad bhliadhna den mhinisteralachd beagan ùine a ghabhail gun leum a-steach ann an rud nach eil thu fhèin cinnteach a bhiodh tu ag iarraidh a bhith a’ dèanamh. Agus mar sin bha mi gu math faiceallach nuair a thàinig mi an toiseach nach robh mi a’ dol a dhèanamh sin. Bha sinn a’ cur seachad ùrnaigh le chèile, mì fhìn agus Alasdair, fhios agad dè seòrsa, mar gum biodh, dreuchd a bha gu bhith agamsa ann an seo, an robh mi dìreach, fhios agad bha a’ chlann agam a-nise anns an sgoil. Bha sin a’ fàgail gun robh cha mhòr a’ chuid mhòr den latha agamsa airson rudan eile a dhèanamh. Agus an rud a bha mi a’ faireachdainn aig an àm, bu chaomh leam gun sealladh an Cruthaidhear dhomh dè, fhios agad, bhiodh E a’ miannachadh a thòisichinn a’ dèanamh. Bha tarraing agam a thaobh a bhith ag obair le òigridh, bha bho riamh, ach bha mi a’ faireachdainn nuair a bhithinn a’ coimhead a-mach air uinneagan a’ mhansa ann an seo cha robh mi a’ faicinn càil ach daoine òg’ a’ dol seachad le pramaichean agus cha robh mi a’ faicinn duine de na daoine seo a’ tighinn dhan eaglais air an t-Sàbaid agus bha mi a’ cantainn “uill, ciamar a tha mis’ a’ dol a chur eòlas air na daoine a tha sin?”. Agus thàinig e a-steach orm gun tòisichinn parent toddler anns an eaglais.

[Màiri] Madainn mhath! Hàlo, Stevie Rose. Seo Stevie Rose agus Hamish ’s Lottie. Trobhadaibh a-steach.

[Preseantair] Chan eil Màiri cinnteach bho sheachdain gu seachdain cia mheud pàrant agus pàiste a nochdas. An-diugh tha i trang gu leòr, ged a tha rudan ann an-còmhnaidh a chumas daoine air falbh.

[Màiri] Tha sinn air cumail a’ dol, tha. Tha barrachd air nochdadh a-nis agus tha sìde mhath ann cuideachd an-diugh agus ’s mathaid gun cùm sin feadhainn gun thighinn. Bidh iad a-muigh sa ghàrradh agus rudan den t-seòrsa sin ach co-dhiù tha gu leòr againn tha mi a’ smaoineachadh.

[Preseantair] Agus ma thig tuilleadh ’s a’ chòrr tha fios aig Màiri gu bheil cuideachadh aice gus tì, juice agus cèicichean a chumail riutha.

[Màiri] Boireannaich agam anns a’choitheanal , bèicearan uabhasach math agus bidh iad a’ toirt rudan mar seo thugainn a h-uile…., tha cuideigin air rota a h-uile Diardaoin airson a thighinn le rudeigin.

[Preseantair] Ged a tha an cròileagan air a bhith a’ dol grunn mhìosan a-nis chan eil a h-uile duine a bhios ga fhrithealadh mothachail air cò i.

[Màiri] Uill fhios agad air seo, chuir aon rud iongnadh ormsa an-diugh. Tha aon de na boireannaich a bha a-staigh còmhla rium an-diugh agus cha robh càil a dh’fhios aice gur e bean mhinisteir a bh’ annam. Tha sin math, nach eil?

[Màiri] Nuair a thòisicheas tu air rud sam bith feumaidh fios a bhith agad nach eil, chan eil thu dìreach gu bhith a’ tionndadh an-àirde air an latha. Tha comataidh ann. Mar sin tha mi air a’ chomataidh. Tha mi a-nis na mo threasurer air a’ chomataidh agus tha mi an urra ri bhith a’ coimhead às dèidh airgead na buidhne ’s a’ cur a-steach airson airgead airson tha thu a’ faighinn taic bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig. Tha tòrr paperwork an lùib buidheann sam bith a tha thu a’ cur air adhart an-diugh agus mar sin tha mi gu m’ ugannan ann am forms.

[Màiri] Seo a-nis. Chì mi sibh an ath-sheachdain.

Chaidh am prògram seo, Bean a' Mhinisteir, a chraoladh an toiseach ann an 2014.

Mairi's playgroup

[Presenter] In 2012 Alasdair MacAulay was inducted to Tain and Fearn Free Church congregation. His first congregation as a minister and Mairi’s as a minister’s wife.

[Presenter] That was a year ago and they themselves and the three children have been making a home of the manse and getting to know a new community.

[Presenter] Today Màiri is busy with a Gaelic playgroup she started in the church hall.

[Mairi] I was somewhat disappointed when it started. I think that it was three people that appeared and after that though it started growing very quickly and I think that I have twenty or twenty one people on the register now.

[Mairi] I received advice before I came to the first year of the ministry to take a little time without jumping into something that you yourself aren’t certain that you would want to do. And therefore I was very careful when I came at first that I wasn’t going to do that. We prayed together, myself and Alasdair, you know what sort of job as it were I was going to have here, was I just, you know my children were now in school. That left that I had nearly most of the day to do other things. And the thing I was feeling at the time, I would like the Creator to show me what, you know, He would desire that I would start doing. I was drawn to working with young people, I always was, but I was feeling when I would look out of the manse windows here I didn’t see anything but young people going past with prams and I didn’t see any of these people coming to the church on the Sabbath and I was saying “well, how am I going to get to know these people?”. And I realised that I would start a parent toddler group in the church.

[Mairi] Good morning! Hello, Stevie Rose. This is Stevie Rose and Hamish and Lottie. In you come.”

[Presenter] Màiri isn’t sure from week-to-week how many parents and children will appear. Today she is busy enough, although there are always things that keep people away.

[Mairi] We have kept going, yes. More have appeared now and there is good weather too today and perhaps that will keep some from coming. They will be out in the garden and things like that but anyway we have enough I think.

[Presenter] And if too many come Màiri knows that she has help to provide them with tea, juice and cakes.

[Mairi] I have women in the congregation, excellent bakers and they give us things like this every, someone is on rota every Thursday to come with something.

[Presenter] Although the playgroup has been going for a few months now not everyone that attends it is aware of who she is.

[Mairi] Well do you know this, one thing surprised me today. One of the women who was in with me today and she had no idea that I was the minister’s wife. That’s good, isn’t it?

[Mairi] When you start anything you must know that, you’re not just going to be turning up on the day. There is a committee. Therefore I am on the committee. I am now the treasurer on the committee and I am responsible for looking after the group’s money and applying for money because you get support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig. There is lots of paperwork involved in any group you put forward today and therefore I’m up to here in forms.

[Mairi] I think that’s about it. We’ll see you all next week. There we go. I’ll see you next week.

This programme, Bean a' Mhinisteir, was first broadcast in 2014.
