Cur air bhog e-Sgoil

[Iain MacIlleathain – Preseantair] Nise, chaidh 'm pròiseact foghlaim ùr e-sgoil a chur air bhonn gu h-oifigeil ann an Steòrnabhagh an-diugh. Tha e-sgoil a’toirt seachad foghlam air-loidhne do chloinn nach fhaigh na cuspairean sin anns na sgoiltean aca fhèin. Th' ùghdarrais ionadail eile air ùidh a nochdadh anns a’phròiseact aig Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. Bha Ruaraidh Rothach aig an fhosgladh oifigeil.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] ‘Si Cathraiche an Fhoglaim, Catriona Stiùbhart, a dh’ fhosgail togalach ùr e-sgoil air Sràid Fhrangan ann a Steòrnabhagh an-diugh. Bha i fhèin na sgoilear ann a-sheo uaireigin. Dh’ aidich i fhèin nach b’ ann an-dè a bha sin agus anns an latha an-diugh tha dùbhlain ro chomhairlean a h-uile cuspair a tha sgoilearan a’ lùiginn a lìbhrigeadh. Le e-ionnsachadh, tha e comasach clasaichean a thoirt seachad gu sgoil sam bith ann an sgìre sam bith.

[Catrìona Stiùbhart] Chan eil dòigh eile air faighinn thairis air na trioblaidean a th’ againn agus chan e a-mhàin an roinn agus a’ chomhairle ach comhairlean eile air feadh Alba gu lèir. Mar a thuirt thu tha gainead de thidsearan ann, gu h-àraidh ann an cuspairean mar Maths agus Saidheans agus tha sinn a’ faicinn na buaidh a th’ aige air feadh nan eileanan gu lèir. Bha sinn a’ teagaisg Maths mar seo ann am Bagh a’ Chaisteil an-uiridh, dh’obraich e mìorbhaileach math agus nuair a thòisicheas na sgoiltean air ais an ath-bhliadhn’ bidh iad ag ionnsachadh Fiosaigs bhon seo sìos dhan Phloc agus tha Gàidhlig mar a tha fios againn, tha i dol a-mach às an seo a dh’ Obar Dheathain.

[Cathy Mary Nic a’ Mhaoilein] Bheil sibh a’ coimhead air adhart ri na saor-làithean?

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] Eisimpleir air mar a tha e-sgoil air leudachadh mar-thà air fhaicinn ann an Sgoil Shiaboist. Tha Cathy Mary Nic a’ Mhaoilein a’ teagaisg Gàidhlig do sgoilearan ann an Sgoil Hazlehead ann an Obar Dheathain.

[Cathy Mary Nic a’ Mhaoilein] Nuair a thòisich sinn an toiseach shaoil mi, “oh tha seo gu bhith eagalach duilich” ach, chan eil. Tha a h-uile càil a tha iad a’ dèanamh, ’s ann air-loidhne a tha e. ’S tha mise ga fhaicinn an sgrìobhadh ’s tha e uabhasach furasta dhomh a dhol a ràdha riutha, “siuthad, siuthad, theirig air ais an siud tha sin ceàrr agad, càite bheil thu faicinn na mearachd a rinn thu?” ‘S urrainn dhòmhsa sin a dhèanamh fhad ‘s a tha iad air mo bheulaibh ’s tha iad a’ dèanamh, tha iad ag obair air a’ chompiutair aca, air na laptops aca dìreach mar sin fhèin ’s tha mise faicinn tha iad a’ dèanamh.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] ‘S e Aonghas MacIllFhinnein ceannard na sgoile agus tha esan a’ faicinn na sgoile seo agus an t-ionnsachadh a thathas a’ toirt seachad mar leudachadh dhan choimhearsnachd air fad agus chan ann do chlann-sgoile a-mhàin.

[Aonghas MacIllFhinnein] Tha foghlam inbhich a’ tighinn fo bhratach e-sgoil a-nis cuideachd ’s chì mi an latha ’s chan fhad thuige far am bi an togalach tha seo tha sinn an dòchas fosgailte gu anmoch air an oidhche agus ’s dòcha fiù Disathairne fhèin far am faigh daoine cothrom a bhith tighinn a-steach a chleachdadh na h-uidheim a th’ againn airson cànan sam bith no cuspair sam bith a tha iad fhèin ag iarraidh rannsachadh ’s taic fhaighinn bho àitichean eile so tha sinn an dòchas gun tig leudachadh air anns an t-seagh sin cuideachd.

[Ruaraidh Rothach – Neach-aithris] Tha a’ phròiseact aig ìre thràth ach tha seachd ùghdarrasan ionadail eile air ùidh a nochdadh agus tha Riaghaltas na h-Alba a’ cur làn thaic ris. Le sin, ’s mathaid gur e an t-ionnsachadh eileagtronaigeach an t-ionnsachadh bòidheach. Ruairidh Rothach, BBC An

The launch of e-Sgoil

[Iain MacLean – Presenter] Now, the new education project e-Sgoil was officially launched in Stornoway today. E-Sgoil delivers education online for children who are unable to get particular subjects in their own schools. Another local authority has shown interest in the Western Isles Council’s project. Roddy Munro was at the official opening.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] The Director of Education, Catriona Stewart, opened the new e-Sgoil building on Francis Street in Stornoway today. She was a pupil here herself at one time. She admitted that wasn’t yesterday and today councils are faced with the challenge to provide every subject the pupils desire. With e-learning, it’s possible to give classes to any school and in any area.

[Catriona Stewart] There’s no other solution to our problems, not only in our department and the council but other councils across the whole of Scotland. As you were saying there is a shortage of teachers, particularly in subjects such as Maths and Science and we’re seeing the impact of that across all the islands. We taught maths in this way in Castlebay last year, it worked really well and when the schools start back next year Physics will be taught in Plockton from here and as we know Gaelic gets taught from here down to Aberdeen.

[Cathy Mary MacMillan] Are you looking forward to the holidays?

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] An example of how e-Sgoil has already expanded can be seen in Shawbost School. Cathy Mary MacMillan teaches Gaelic to pupils in Hazlehead Academy in Aberdeen.

[Cathy Mary MacMillan] When we first began I thought, “oh this is going to be terribly hard” but, it’s not. Everything is done online. And I can see it – their writing – and it’s very easy for me to go and say to them “go on back there, that’s incorrect, where can you see the mistake you made?” I can do that as the work they are doing on their on laptops is right in front of me on the screen. I can see it all.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] Angus MacLennan is the school head teacher and he sees this school and the teaching they are providing being expanded to the whole community and not just to school children alone.

[Angus MacLennan] Adult education falls under the e-Sgoil category now too and I can see the day, and it won’t be long, when this building, we hope, will be open late at night and perhaps even on a Saturday to allow people to come in and use the equipment we have for any language or to research any subject they please and receive support from other places. So we hope to expand it in that respect also.

[Roddy Munro – Reporter] The project is in its early stages but seven other local authorities have shown interest and the Scottish Government are in full support of it. Therefore, perhaps electronic learning is the best learning. Roddy Munro, BBC An Là.

Tha Learn Gaelic le An Là ag amas air luchd-ionnsachaidh na Gàidhlig a tha, le beagan misneachd, deiseil airson ceum air adhart a ghabhail. The material is suitable for all learners, but those who have progressed beyond the Beginner level will find this section particularly useful.

Bidh sinn a’ cur sgeulachdan bhon phrògram BBC An Là beò gach seachdain, le tar-sgrìobhadh Gàidhlig is eadar-theangachadh Beurla. Bidh dath an teacsa ag atharrachadh nuair a thèid facal a chluich. ‘S urrainnear cliogadh air facal sònraichte agus cluichidh am bhidio bhon sin a-mach. Dh’fhaodadh gum biodh seo cuideachail dha luchd-ionnsachaidh airson fuaimneachadh a dhearbhadh. Stories from the BBC ALBA Gaelic news programme "An Là" are uploaded on a weekly basis, with a Gaelic transcript and an English translation. As each Gaelic word is spoken, the accompanying text changes colour. Individual words can be selected with a simple click and the video will play from that point onwards. Learners may find this useful for checking pronunciation.

Bidh gach paragraf Gàidhlig a’ gluasad ri linn na h-aithris, ach faodar cuideachd na bàraichean-sgrolaidh a ghluasad gu earrann shònraichte den aithris. Each Gaelic paragraph automatically scrolls in conjunction with the news report, but the manual scrolling bars can also be used to move the text to a particular section of the report.

Chithear an tar-sgrìobhadh Gàidhlig anns a’ chiad dol a-mach. Ach, gheibhear eadar-theangachadh Beurla den tar-sgrìobhadh le bhith a’ taghadh Beurla no Gàidhlig agus Beurla. The Gaelic transcript is shown by default. However, you can see a translation of the transcript by selecting the English or Gaelic and English tabs.

Tha briathrachas cuideachd ri fhaotainn, le faidhlichean fuaim Gàidhlig na chois. Tha a’ bhriathrachas air a thaghadh bhon aithris fhèin, le measgachadh leithid ainmean-àite, briathrachas naidheachd, gnathasan-cainnt is abairtean. Key vocabulary is also provided, with accompanying Gaelic audio. This is a selected from the vocabulary contained in the news report and may include a selection of place names, news terminology, useful colloquialisms and phrases.

Tha luchd-leasachaidh an làraich a’ moladh gun tèid am brabhsair-lìn as ùire a chleachdadh airson an t-susbaint seo fhaicinn. Am measg nam brabhsairean ùra (saor an-asgaidh) as urrainnear a chleachdadh, tha Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer agus Safari. The developers of the site recommend that an up-to-date web browser is used to ensure the content displays to its optimum. Suitable browsers (which are free to use) include the latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.
