[Iain MacIlleathain – Preseantair] Nise tha a' bhuidheann Ùrachadh Uibhist ag amas air an àite aca aig Cladach Chirceaboist a dhèanamh na ionad coimhearsnachd far am bi grunn bhuidhnean agus gnìomhachasan beaga a' tighinn còmhla. Thathar a' trusadh bheachdan bhon choimhearsnachd air a’ chùis. Chaidh grunn rumannan fhàgail falamh ann nuair a ghluais an sgoil-àraich a bh' ann a-mach. Seo Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Suas gu deireadh An Lùnastail am-bliadhna, b’e guthan agus ùpraid bho chloinn bhig a bha ri chluinntinn anns na rumannan seo. Ach dh’ atharraich sin agus an sgoil-àraich air a gluasad beagan mhìltean sìos an rathad gu bun-sgoil ùr Uibhist a Tuath.

[Fiona MacIlleathain] Bhon uair sin tha beàrn anns an togalach far am b’ àbhaist dhaibh a bhith agus tha sinn a’ faicinn gu bheil an t-àite air fàs gu math sàmhach às aonais na cloinne agus às aonais nam pàrantan agus cuideachd an luchd-obrach.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] A-nis le grunn rumannan falamh, tha Ùrachadh Uibhist, aig a bheil Ionad Chladach Circeaboist, a’ toirt sùil air gu ghabhas dèanamh leotha.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha cafaidh anns an ionad mar-thà agus ‘s e àite trang a th’ ann, gu h-àraidh tro mhìosan an t-samhraidh agus air sàilleabh sin chaidh leudachadh a thoirt air aon turas roimhe seo.

[Fiona MacIlleathain] Ochd rumannan a th’ againn gu lèir agus tha iad uile de dhiofar mheudachd agus tha daoine air a bhith a’ smaoineachadh ‘s dòcha an cafaidh a leudachadh le fear aca airson tha an cafaidh uabhasach soirbheachail agus daoine cuideachd a’ smaoineachadh ‘s dòcha gym a chur ann am fear aca, ‘s dòcha a’ choimhearsnachd a bhith ruith sin?

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bho chionn sheachdainean tha companaidh leasachaidh Uibhist a Tuath air a bhith ag obair còmhla ri Ùrachadh Uibhist a’ trusadh bheachdan sa choimhearsnachd air mar a ghabhas an t-ionad a chleachdadh. ‘S e cothrom a th’ ann grunn bhuidhnean coimhearsnachd agus gnìomhachasan beaga a tharraing còmhla ann an aon àite far am faodadh iad a bhith nan taic dha chèile.

[Fiona MacIlleathain] Tha na rumannan uile de dhiofar sheòrsaichean ‘s tha sinn ag iarraidh ‘s dòcha, a h-uile duine, rudeigin diofraichte a bhith anns gach rùm ‘s dòcha., airson a bhith caran aig cridhe coimhearsnachd Uibhist a Tuath. Hub airson a h-uile duine bhith tighinn ann, tha sinn feumach air. Agus cuideachd airson na coimhearsnachd fhèin, àite a bhith aca airson a h-uile dad fhaighinn a bhios a dhìth orra.

A community hub for Claddach Kirkibost?

[Iain MacLean – Presenter] Now the group Uist Renewal are aiming to turn their centre in Claddach Kirkibost into a community centre where many groups and little businesses can come together. They are gathering ideas from the community on the matter. Many rooms were left vacant when the nursery school that was there moved out. Here’s Shona MacDonald.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Up until the end of August last year, it was the voices and the commotion of little children that could be heard in these rooms. But that’s changed with the nursery school having moved a few miles down the road to the new North Uist primary school.

[Fiona MacLean] Since then there been a void in the building in the space they used to occupy and we can see that the place has become very quiet without the children, their parents and also the staff.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Now with a number of rooms empty, Uist Renewal, who own the Claddach Kirkibost centre, are looking at what can be done with them.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There’s a café in the centre already and it’s a busy place, particularly throughout the summer months and due to that it has already been expanded once before.

[Fiona MacLean] We have eight rooms in total and they are all different sizes. People have been thinking perhaps of expanding the café into one of them as the cafe has been very successful and people have also thought of perhaps having a gym in one of them, which perhaps the community could run.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] For weeks a North Uist development company have been working with Uist Renewal, gathering ideas from the community on how the centre could be used. It’s an opportunity to gather many community groups and small businesses together in one place where they could be of support to one another.

[Fiona MacLean] The rooms are all of different types and we want perhaps, something different to be in each room and for it to be at the heart of the North Uist community. A hub for everyone to visit, we’re in need of that. And also for the community itself, that it has a place for all its requirements.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là in North Uist.
