Meanbh-sgealb nan coin

[Iain MacIlleathin – Preseantair] Nise, feumaidh meanbh-sgealb, no microchip, a bhith anns a h-uile nas sine na ochd seachdainean a dh'aois bhon t-siathamh dhen ath-mhìos. Dh'fhaodadh càin suas ri £500 a dhol air duine aig am bi às aonais meanbh-sgealb. Tha grunn adhbharan ann dhan an riaghailt, nam measg - a dhèanamh nas fhasa beathach a lorg ma tha iad air chall. Tha an aithris seo aig Seonaidh MacCoinnich.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] A rèir coltais tha microchip aig ceithir a-mach à còig coin anns an dùthaich seo. Tha an chip a’ cumail àireamh shònraichte a tha a’ ceangal ri stòr-dàta, far a bheil fiosrachadh air a chumail mun chù. Chan e dìreach aig a tha an ach ‘s dòcha rudan eile mar tinneasan a bha air a’ chù. Fiosrachadh gu math cuideachail ma tha an air a dhol air chall. Chan eil an chip nas motha na gràin ruis agus tha e dol fo craiceann a’ choin.

[Iain MacIlleathain] Tha na chips, tha iad gu math beag. ‘S e rud a th’ann a bhios am broinn snàthaid a tha sinn a’ cur fon chraiceann ann an coin ‘s ann an cait ‘s ann am beathaichean eile. Ach chan eil iad ach mu mheud gràinean rus. Tha mi creids bheil cho leathann ri gràinean rus agus dhà uimhir a dh’ fhaid ri gràinean ruis.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Ach chan eil e dìreach do chon a tha air a dhol air chall.

[Iain MacIlleathain] Tha dòighean eile air a chall cuideachd. ‘S e gun tèid an goid. Agus nan deigheadh a ghoid agus gun tigeadh cuideigin tarsainn air a’ chù ‘s gun leughadh iad an chip dh’innseadh an chip sin dha daoine gu robh an sin le cuideigin agus gun dòcha nach robh an duine sin air cead a thoirt dhan fhear aig a bheil e an-dràsta falbh leis a’ chù agus bhiodh e na chuideachadh dhuinn, ag innse dhuinn gu bheil suidheachadh ann far bheil coin air an goid.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] An-uiridh ann an Alba bha mu 1500 air an air an dealachadh le 90 dhuibh air an cur nan cadal. Bidh barrachd uallaich ann cuideachd air daoine airson mar a tha na coin aca air an giùlain. Agus tha an aon lagh a’ tighinn gu buil ann an Sasainn agus a’ Chuimrigh air an aon latha.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Ma tha agad agus tha e nas sinne na ochd seachdainean a dh’aois, tha nas lugha na mìos agad airson a bhith cinnteach gu bheil microchip aige. Agus nas cudromaiche, airson am fiosrachadh air a chumail an àird. Seonaidh MacCoinnich agus Dìleas, BBC An Là.

Compulsory microchipping for dogs

[Iain MacLean – Presenter] Now, from the 6th of next month all dogs over 8 weeks old must be microchipped. Owners could be fined up to £500 if their dog is not microchipped. There are many reasons for this regulation and included in these is to make it easier to find missing dogs. Seonaidh MacKenzie has this report.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie - Reporter] Apparently four out of five dogs in this country are microchipped. The chip has a unique number which links to a database, where information is held about the dog. It’s not only information about the owner it stores but perhaps other things such as illnesses the dog has had. Very useful information if the dog goes missing. The chip is no larger than a grain of rice and it is inserted under the dog’s skin.

[Iain MacLean] The chips are very small. They go inside a needle and are inserted under the skin of dogs, cats and other animals. But they are only around the size of grains of rice. I believe they are as wide as grains of rice and twice as long.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie - Reporter] But it is not only useful for missing dogs.

[Iain MacLean] There are other ways a dog can go missing. It could be stolen. And if a dog was stolen and somebody found it, the chip could be read and the chip would tell if the dog had an owner and therefore that perhaps the person who had the dog had not been given permission to go off with the dog. It will be helpful for us to discover situations where dogs have been stolen.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie - Reporter] Last year in Scotland around 1500 dogs were separated from their owners with 90 of them having to be put down. There will be more of an onus on people to make sure their dogs are well-behaved. And the same law is coming into effect in England and Wales on the same day.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie - Reporter] If you have a dog over 8 weeks old, you have less than a month to make sure it gets microchipped. And more importantly, to keep the information up to date. Seonaidh MacKenzie and Dìleas, BBC An Là, Wick.
