Clach-mhìle shònraichte dha Fergie

[Dòmhnall Angaidh Moireasdan – Preseantair] Am-bliadhna tha Fergie Dòmhnallach a' comharrachadh 60 bliadhna bho thòisich e air còmhlan-ciùil dha fhèin. Thairis air na bliadhnachan tha e air mullach a' chlàir Albannaich a ruighinn le Loch Maree Islands agus air mullach clàr iTunes a ruighinn cha mhòr leth cheud bliadhna às dèidh sin leis an òran "The Shinty Referee." Agus a rèir choltais chan eil e a’ stad fhathast, mar a tha Seonaidh MacCoinnich ag aithris.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Fad air falbh bho a dhachaigh ann am Mùideart, tha Fergie Dòmhnallach ainmeil air feadh an t-saoghail son ceòl cèilidh. Tha e air a bhith a’ cluich airson còrr is 60 bliadhna ach ciamar a ghabh e ùidh ann?

[Fergie Dòmhnallach] Uill cha robh mi ach 7, 8 ,9 ,10 no rudeigin agus bha dannsaichean anns an talla shuas an rathad, ann an Talla Mhingearraidh agus bha luchd-ciùil an siud, Fearchar MacRath agus the Roshven Cèilidh Band agus ‘s iad a bha math. Agus bhithinn-sa nam shuidhe fad na h-oidhche fon stèids ag èisteachd riutha. Ach bha daoine ag ràdh rium an dèidh sin, feumaidh gu robh rud anam, fhios agad. Ach cha robh fhios agamsa air sin aig an àm.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] B’e rathad fada bhon a’ chiad chuirm aige ann an Loch Àlainn, far an deach an t-àite na theine. Tro na bliadhnaichean a’ feuchainn ri ceòl cèilidh a chluich tro na meadhanan, chun an-diugh far a bheil barrachd chòmhlain a-nis a’ cluich ceòl cèilidh.

[Fergie Dòmhnallach] Take eile a th’aca air a’ ghnothach uile gu lèir agus tha e a’ còrdadh uabhasach riumsa oh tha na boys sin tha iad math. Ach, mairidh sin airson tacan, chan eil fhios agam cho fada agus thig rudeigin eile agus bidh iadsan second air sin, thig ceòl eile a-mach. Chan eil fhios agam bhios ann ach tha an gnothach ag atharrachadh fad na h-ùine agus tha mi smaointinn gur e sin an dòigh as còir dha bhith.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Ach chan eil Fergie airson stad. Tha e a’ sgrìobhadh leabhar airson nam pìobairean a tha airson na puirt aige a chluich. Agus anns na seachadan, tha e a’ gabhail pàirt ann am film.

[Fergie Dòmhnallach] Bha mi an-sàs ann an, tha thu dol a’ ghàireachdainn air seo, Fergie ann am blockbuster film! Cha chuala mi rud cho iongantach riamh. Ach sin mar a tha e. Agus tha mi cluich a’ bhogsa ann an remake a tha aca air whisky galore.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-aithris] Is iongantach mura bi iomadh port fhathast ri thighinn bho Fergie. Seonaidh MacCoinnich, BBC An Là, Mingearraidh.

Tha sinn duilich gu bheil rudeigin ceàrr le na dealbhan a chì thu. Tha seo ri linn trioblaidean teicnigeach nuair a chaidh am prògram a-mach beò.

Special milestone for Fergie

[Donald Morrison – Reporter] This year Fergie MacDonald celebrates 60 years since he started his own band. Over the years he’s topped the Scottish charts with “Loch Maree Islands” and he then reached the top of the iTunes chart almost 50 years later with the song “The Shinty Referee.” And apparently there’s no sign of him stopping yet, as Seonaidh MacKenzie reports.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] Far away from his home in Moidart, Fergie MacDonald is famous across the world for ceilidh music. He’s been playing for more than 60 years but how did he take an interest in it?

[Fergie MacDonald] Well I was only 7, 8, 9, 10 or thereabouts and there were dances taking place up the road in Mingarry Hall. The musicians who played there, Fearchar MacRae and the Roshven Ceilidh Band, they were good. I would sit under the stage all night listening to them. People would say to me after that, you know, that I had a special talent. But I didn’t know that at the time.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] It’s been a long road from his first gig in Lochaline, where the place went on fire. From years spent playing ceilidh music on radio and TV to today, where there are now more bands than ever playing ceilidh music.

[Fergie MacDonald] They’ve got another take on the whole thing altogether and I enjoy that very much, these boys are really good. But, that will only last a short while, I don’t know for how long but some other new music will emerge and they’ll come second to that. I don’t know what it will be but things always change so quickly and I think that’s how it should be.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] But Fergie doesn’t want to stop there. He writing a book for pipers of his tunes. And in his 70s, he’s taking part in a film.

[Fergie MacDonald] I was involved in, you’re going to laugh at this, Fergie in a blockbuster movie! I’ve not heard anything so extraordinary in my life. But that’s how it is. I’m playing the box in a remake of Whisky Galore.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] There will be many more tunes yet to come from Fergie I expect. Seonaidh MacKenzie, BBC An Là, Mingarry.

We apologise for the glitch in vision. This was due to a live technical fault.
