[Cathy Shankland] I think everybody is fascinated with Lego. So many older people have been coming in to the exhibition too who have really, really been impressed by the things they’ve seen there and they still have an interest in Lego. I think they say a lot of architects start out creating things in Lego and go on to become prize winning architects. So I think Lego is not just for children, it’s for everybody.

Lego Exhibition in Inverness
[Anne Lundon – Presenter] Now, a special exhibition has opened in Inverness which young people will be interested in – and perhaps the not so young as well. “Brick Wonders” at Inverness Museum showcases buildings, places and wonderful sights from around the world, all built with Lego. Seonaidh MacKenzie has more.
[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] It’s not often you get the chance to see the Great Wall of China, London Bridge and the Great Pyramid of Giza at the same time. But for a month, they are all at Inverness Museum, in Lego form. Along with Stonehenge, the Lighthouse of Alexandra, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and even a model T Ford, they were all created by Warren Elsmore, who took many months to build the structures. In order to make the airport, he used over 180,000 pieces. But with modern day electronic toys, are children interested in Lego?

[Anne Marie MacGregor] We thought it would be good for the children to develop some skills in golden time. In that club they need to work in pairs. One pupil reads out the instructions, in Gaelic, and the other then builds something out of Lego using these instructions. We therefore thought that it would be good for their Gaelic.
[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] And how do the children themselves feel about it?
[Child 1] Lego is good because you are building things and using your imagination.
[Child 2] I like Lego because it comes in lots of different colours and you can create anything you want out of it.
[Child 3] I still think Lego city is good but I like Lego Technic better.
[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Reporter] As well as the professional exhibition, it will also feature one or two creations by Highland primary schools, exhibiting Loch Ness, Noss Head Lighthouse and Caledonian Thistle’s stadium.
