Treabhadh anmoch an Uibhist

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] Chaidh cead a thoirt do chòrr is 40 croitear ann an Uibhist an talamh aca a threabhadh nas anmoiche nas àbhaist leis cho fliuch 's a tha am fearann. Le àm cur a' ruith mu mhìos air dheireadh, dh'aontaich Dualchas Nàdair na h-Alba leudachadh a dhèanamh air a' cheann-là a tha ceadaichte ann an sgìrean glèidhte. Tha tuilleadh aig Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Feumaidh an treabhadh, cur is cliathadh anns a’ mhachaire ann an sgìre glèidhteachais a bhith deiseil gach bliadhna ron 15mh den Chèitein. Tha sin airson a h-uile cothrom a thoirt do eòin neadachadh agus àl a thoirt a-nuas gu sàbhailte.

[Seonaidh MacIlleathain] Uill ‘s e trioblaid bu mhotha bh’ againn ‘s e an sìde. Tha a’ mhachaire againn car ìosal, flat agus tha e cumail an uisge agus dhèanamaid an gnothach le riasladh air an treabhadh ach cha ghabhadh curachd a dhèanamh.

[John Allan MacGilleFhialain] Tha feadhainn ann a fhuair treabhadh a dhèanamh agus curachd a dhèanamh ach tha iad air sìol a chall. Tha an sìol air a dhol fodha ‘s tha e air a bhàthadh ‘s tha sin air a chall a-nis completely.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] An-uiridh, dh’iarr 12 croitear cead air Dualchas Nàdair na h-Alba an treabhadh a dhèanamh as dèidh an 15mh den Chèitean. Am-bliadhna fhuair SNH an aon iarrtas bho 44 croitearan eadar Bòrnais agus Baile Raghnaill.

[Flòraidh Dhòmhnaill] I haven’t asked for much information. All I need to know is the location of the plots that they’re planning on ploughing. Obviously because they’re rotated it’s important for me to know which plots they’re doing this year. And apart from that, if they’re in SRDP then I also need to notify the department, that we’ve granted that extension because again, this 15th May is a condition for them to receive their payment for the management.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Chaidh an ceann-latha a ghluasad chun an latha mu dheireadh dhen Chèitean ach fiù ‘s aig an sin cha ghabhadh an obair a dhèanamh.

[John Allan MacGilleFhialain] Chan eil fhios agam bhiodh air tachairt thoireadh seo a-nis an dàrna extension againn agus chan eil fhios agam an gabh pìosan dheth dhèanamh an uair sin e fhèin. Tha an t-àite cho cianail fliuch ‘s tha dìreach a’ faileachdainn oirnn faighinn air le machinery airson a dhèanamh, airson a chrìochnachadh.

[Seonaidh MacIlleathain] Cha dèan mi an gnothach air a’ churachd a dhèanamh gun extension a thug iad dhomh chun a 1st June. Uill mi an gnothach air aige sin ach chan eil an roiligeadh dèanta fhathast ach feumaidh mi cead fhaighinn air a shon a-nis.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] A-nis bidh na croitearan a’ feitheamh air sìde thioram agus teth. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là, ann an Uibhist.

Late ploughing in Uist

English Beurla

[Innes Munro - Presenter] Permission was given to more than 40 crofters in Uist to plough their land later than usual due to how wet the ground is. With the planting season running around a month late, Scottish Natural Heritage agreed to extend the permitted deadline in conservation areas. Shona MacDonald has more.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The ploughing, planting and harrowing of machair land in a conservation area must be completed before 15th May each year. This is to give birds every chance to nest and release their brood safely.

[John MacLean] Well our biggest problem was the weather. Our machair land is somewhat low and flat and it retains water. We managed the ploughing, with difficulty, but no planting could be done.

[John Allan MacLellan] There are some who managed to plough and plant but they’ve lost seed. The seed has been submerged and drowned and is now completely lost.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Last year, 12 crofters asked Scottish Natural Heritage for permission to plough after 15th May. This year SNH received the same request from 44 crofters between Bornish and Balranald.

[Flora Donald] I haven’t asked for much information.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The deadline was moved to the last day of May but even then the work could not be done.

[John Allan MacLellan] I don’t know what would have happened as this is now our second extension and I don’t know even then if some parts of it can be done. The place is so terribly wet and we just couldn’t get onto it with machinery to complete it.

[John Maclean] I won’t manage to do the planting without the extension they gave me until 1st June. Well I’ll manage at that but the rolling isn’t done yet but I need to get permission for it now.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] The crofters will now be waiting for dry, hot weather. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là, in Uist.
