[Murray Finch] We have a finance package from a consortium of banks which will enable us to construct the project. But they require us to contribute our own 30% of equity into the scheme and we’re raising £330,000 through a community share issue at the moment.

A community group in Mull sells shares
[Iain MacAonghais - Presenter] Now, a community group in Mull are setting up a Hydro scheme are selling shares in the project. Green Energy Mull had to raise £70,000 before the end of the month. And they told us a few hours ago that they had reached that target. As our reporter in Argyll, Andreas Wolff, reports.
[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] A community group in Mull wants to build a Hydro scheme in this stream near Creag an Iubhair. It will cost more than a million pounds. They hope that the people of Mull will support this.
[Murray Finch] We have a finance package from a consortium of banks which will enable us to construct the project. But they require us to contribute our own 30% of equity into the scheme and we’re raising £330,000 through a community share issue at the moment.
[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] They have reached their target, but there will still be a chance for people to buy shares before Friday.
[Janet MacDonald] There is a competition and the community group that raises the greatest amount of money; they will win a prize of £500.
[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] But that is not the only benefit that the people of this island will het. When the scheme is finished at the end of the year, there will be fund set up which community groups will be able to access in the future.
