Oilthigh Ghlaschu a’ comharrachadh còig bliadhna de Thaigh na Gàidhlig

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacIlleathain - Preseantair] Tha Oilthigh Ghlaschu an t-seachdain sa a’ comharrachadh còig bliadhna de Thaigh na Gàidhlig ag amas air oileanaich aig a bheil an cànan agus a’ toirt cothrom dhaibh fuireach còmhla ann an àrainn Gàidhlig. Tha e a’ brosnachadh dhaoine an dàimh ris a’ Ghàidhlig a chumail as bith de an t-slighe acadamaigeach a bhios aca. Chaidh Alasdair Friseal a chèilidh orra.

[Alasdair Friseal – Neach-aithris] Ann an mhìle ‘s a naoi, chaidh an sgeama còmhnaidh a steidhicheadh le Oilthigh Ghlaschu. Chun an an-diugh an aon sgeama de sheòrsa an Alba. Thar nam bliadhnaichean, tha farsaingeachd de dh’Oileanaich air fuireach ann an Taigh na Gàidhlig.

[Iona Whyte] Chan eil mi a-riamh air a bhith ann an suidheachadh far a bheil a h-uile duine cho sòisealta leis a’ Ghàidhlig. Tha an triùir nighean, tha sinn uile anns a’ chiad bhliadhna, 's tha sinn uile a’ dol tron an aon seòrsa rud aig an aon àm. Agus Robbie, tha esan dìreach san darna bliadhna, tha sinn uile timcheall air an aon aois. Tha na h-aon h-ùidhean againne, tha e a’ còrdadh rium gu mòr.

[Alasdair Friseal – Neach-aithris] Ach, co ris a tha e coltach a bith a’ fuireach ann an Taigh na Gàidhlig?

[Eleanor Dickson] Tha thu a-measg dhaoine aig a tha rudan co-cheangailte riutsa. Tha sibh uile anns an aon t-suidheachadh. Tha sibh uile a’ faireachdain an aon rud mu dheidhinn a’ chànan. Tha sibh uabhasach toilichte a bhith anns an suidheachadh seo. Tha sibh dìreach toilichte a bhith ga bruidhinn, toilichte a bhith a’ gabhail phàirt anns na tachartasan, agus tha thu dìreach a’ faireachdainn mar gu bheil thu pàirt de rudeigin cudromach.

[Alasdair Friseal – Neach-aithris] Agus mar dhachaigh sam bith, feumaidh a h-uile duine riaghailtean a leantainn.

[Iona Whyte] A’ phrìomh riaghailt agus chan e riaghailt a th’ ann, ‘s e gum bi sinn uile a’ bruidhinn Gàidhlig ri chèile anns an taigh.

[Alasdair Friseal – Neach-aithris] Agus a bheil sinn ag obrachadh?

[Iona Whyte] Tha… tha.

[Alasdair Friseal – Neach-aithris] Ach chan fheum thu Gàidhlig a bhith a dhèanamh Gàidhlig san oilthigh airson fuirach ann. Tha cothrom ga thoirt do dh’oileanaich sam bith aig Oilthigh Ghlaschu àite fhaighinn ann an taigh na Gàidhlig.

[Fiona Dunn] Bha sinn a-riamh ag amas air cothrom a thoirt do dh’oileanaich a bhith a’ tighinn an seo agus a bhith a’ taghadh cuspair sam bith a bha iad airson ionnsachadh ach gun a bhith a’ call leis a’ Ghàidhlig. Agus sin am prìomh amas a th’ air Taigh na Gàidhlig, ‘s e a bhith a’ brosnachadh dhaibh a bhith a’ cumail a dhol leis a’ Ghàidhlig a bhith a’ cumail ceangal ris a’ chànan agus a bhith ga cleachdadh is ga bruidhinn a h-uile là.

Glasgow University celebrates five years of the House of Gaelic

English Beurla

[Iain MacLean - Presenter] The University of Glasgow is commemorating five years of the House of Gaelic which is aimed at students who have the language and gives them an opportunity to live together in a Gaelic environment. It inspires people to keep their connection with Gaelic regardless of the academic path they are on. Alasdair Fraser went to visit them.

[Alasdair Fraser – Reporter] In 2009, the occupation scheme was set up in the University of Glasgow. To date, it is the only scheme of its type in Scotland. Through the years, there has been range of people who have been living the House of Gaelic.

[Iona Whyte] I have never been in a situation where everyone is so social with Gaelic. The three girls, we are all in the First Year. We are all going through the same sort of thing at the same time. And Robbie, he is just in Second Year; we are all about the same age. We have the same interests, I really enjoy it.

[Alasdair Fraser – Reporter] But what is it like to live in the House of Gaelic.

[Eleanor Dickson] You are amongst people who have the same interests as you. You are all in the same situation. You all feel the same thing about the language. You are awfully pleased to be in your situation. You are pleased to speak it, pleased to be part of the events and you just feel that you are part of something important.

[Alasdair Fraser – Reporter] And like any home, everyone must follow rules.

[Iona Whyte] The main rule and it’s not a rule that is that we all speak Gaelic together in the house.

[Alasdair Fraser – Reporter] And does that work?

[Iona Whyte] Yes... yes.

[Alasdair Fraser – Reporter] But you don’t have to be doing Gaelic at the university. The opportunity is given to any student at the University of Glasgow to get a place at House of Gaelic.

[Fiona Dunn] We have always aimed to offer an opportunity to come here and to choose a subject that they want to learn without losing their Gaelic. And that is the main aim of House of Gaelic, it is to inspire them to keep going with Gaelic and keeping their link with the language and to use it and speak it every day.
