Railidh an Eilein Mhuilich a’ tilleadh

[Ailean MacLeòid - Preseantair] Agus tha a h-uile coltas ann gum bi Tour Mull Rally ann am-bliadhna a-rithist. ’S e tachartas glè chudromach a th’ ann do Mhuile a’ toirt faisg air millean not a-steach don dh’eaconamaidh ionadail. Chaidh stad a chur air an railidh ann an dà mhile ’s a seachd-deug ge-tà le cho mòr ’s a bha àrachas a’ cosg. Tha tuilleadh aig Seonaidh MacCoinnich.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-naidheachd] Thòisich an railidh an Eilein Mhuilich ann an naoi ceud deug trì fichead ’s a naoi. Anns a’ bliadhna sin, bha leth-cheud ‘s a seachd car a’ gabhail pàirt. Bha an railidh a’ toirt mòran luchd-leantainn dhan Eilean agus cuideachd bha e a’ brosnachadh dhaoine òga a bhith a’ dol an sàs.

[Catriona Anna NicCròin] Bha clann ann an Dearbhaig a’ togail rally car ann an 2006. Agus bha John, my nephew, agus Heather, cousin dha, rinn iad an rallaidh am bliadhna sin.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-naidheachd] Is ann an dà mile ’s a seachd-deug, bha cosgais àrachais airson an raillidh ann am Muile a’ ruith ro mhòr agus b’fheudar stad a chur air, ’s cha deach a chumail an-uiridh a bharrachd.

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-naidheachd] Tha reachdas sònraichte ann an Sasann ’s anns a’ Chuimrigh airson rallaidhean a chumail air rathaidhean agus chuir Riaghaltas na h-Alba gu co-chomhairle phoblach air dòigh aig toiseach na bliadhna airson beachdan a chruinneachadh air na riaghailtean atharrachadh a thaobh rallaidhean ann an Alba. Fhuair iad faisg air trì mìle ’s a h-ochd ceud freagairtean agus bha naochad ’s a naoi per cent ag iarraidh gum biodh cumhachdan a bharrachd gan toirt do dh’ùghdarrasan ionadail son a bhith a’ gabhail smachd air dùnadh rathaidean an àite a bhith a‘ dol tro achd phàrlamaid.

[Iain Caimbeul] What we’ re doing for the Mull rally specifically is we’ re planning that the legislation will go through. So we thought it best that if we plan ahead and it goes through, we’ re best to be in the position where we can actually go ahead and run the rally in October. It’ s better to do that than to wait for the legislation to be approved and then go “ Oh wait a minute we haven’t got enough time now to put the whole rally together and we miss this opportunity for 2019. I mean, the rally’ s very, very important to the island, it’ s hugely important to motor sport and to the Scottish motor sport in particular, but it’ very important to the island and you know, it’ s been sorely missed in 2017, 2018.”

[Seonaidh MacCoinnich – Neach-naidheachd] Naidheachd math airson tachartas, a bhios a’ comharrachadh leth-cheud bliadhna am-bliadhna. Seonaidh MacCoinnich, BBC An Là.

Tour of Mull Rally

[Allan MacLeod - Presenter] And there is every chance that Tour of Mull Rally will return this year. It’s a very important event for Mull which brings close to a million pounds to the local economy. The rally was stopped in 2017 due to the large supervision costs. Seonaidh MacKenzie has more.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Journalist] The Isle of Mull rally started in 1969. That year, 57 cars took part. The rally took many followers to the island and also inspired young people to be involved.

[Catherine Ann McCrone] There were children building a rally car in Dervig in 2006. And John, my nephew and Heather, his cousin, they did the rally that year.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Journalist] And in 2017, insurance costs for rallies in Mull were running too high and they had to stop it, and it wasn’t held last year either.

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Journalist] There is particular legislation in England and Wales to hold rallies on the road and the Scottish Government organised a public consultation at the start of the year to gather views to change the laws regarding rallies in Scotland. They received close to 3,800 answers and 99% wanted more powers to be given to local authorities to take control over closing roads instead of going through the act of parliament.

[Iain Campbell] What we re doing for the Mull rally specifically is we’ re planning that the legislation will go through. So we thought it best that if we plan ahead and it goes through, we’ re best to be in the position where we can actually go ahead and actually run the rally in October. It’ s better to do that than to wait for the legislation to be approved and then go “ Oh wait a minute we’ ve not got enough time now to put the whole rally together and we miss this opportunity for 2019. I mean, the rally’ s very, very important to the island, it’ s hugely important to motor sport and to the Scottish motor sport in particular, but it’ very important to the island and you know, it’ s been sorely missed in 2017, 2018.”

[Seonaidh MacKenzie – Journalist] Good news for the event which will celebrate 50 years this year. Seonaidh MacKenzie, BBC An Là.
