[Sweeny] When I see an opportunity to use something anew I think of ways to do so. My neighbour, James, is helping me today with his big tractor to move these tyres home. The tyres would have been thrown out as rubbish but they are now going to give shelter to my sheep. That saves me building a shelter for them and this also saves refuse tax for the council. Everyone gains.
[Sweeny] People think these days that it’s a new thing to be “green” and to use stuff again and to recycle it and to try and save the world by being like that. It’s not a new thing at all. People have been doing it for years, for generations, for thousands of years.
[Iain] He’s got the tyres in there and it’s very good. It’ll keep them sheltered in there. The sheep can go any side of the tyres and there’s good shelter for them.
[Sweeny] I’d say that at least 50 tonnes of rubbish have been saved just on my one croft. I’m not that different from other people. Every other crofter that I know has the same philosophy. They don’t throw things out. It’ll be useful sometime.
