Biadh an-asgaidh

[Màiri] Scotch broth tha mi a’ smaoineachadh a tha mi a’ dol a dhèanamh an-diugh. Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil feadhainn shìos ann an sin ’s chaomh leotha scotch broth. Ma bhios cothrom agam bidh mi a’ dèanamh sin dhaibh.

[Preseantair] Gach Diluain bidh Màiri agus boireannaich eile sa choitheanal ag ullachadh biadh an-asgaidh airson a thoirt chun chinn eile den choitheanal ann am Baile Chnuic.

[Màiri] Tha bochdainn mhòr shìos ann am Balintore ’s na h-àiteachan sin. Ach tha mi a’ smaoineachadh an rud a tha mise, tha sinn air mothachadh, fhios agad “free lunch”, tha mi a’ smaoineachadh duine no dithis bidh iad a’ cantainn “dè, eil catch ann?” fhios agad? Agus ’s mathaid gur e sin a tha gan cumail air falbh so chan eil sinn a’ faicinn uimhir ’s a bha sinn a’ miannachadh nuair a thòisich sinn an toiseach ach tha sinn a’ fàgail sin ann an làmhan a’ Chruthaidheir. Faodaidh Esan sin a thoirt timcheall aig àm sam bith.

[Preseantair] Às dèidh bliadhna na bean ministeir tha Màiri air rudan a mhothachadh mun dreuchd ris nach robh dùil aice.

[Màiri] Nuair a tha thu san dreuchd seo tha daoine ag iarraidh comhairle ort. ’S tha mi a’ smaoineachadh nach robh mi riamh gam fhaicinn fhìn mar chuideigin a bhiodh a’ comhairleachadh cuideigin eile airson uill cò mise airson a dhol a dh’innse dha duine dè tha ceart no ceàrr nam beatha. Fhios agad, a bheil thu a’ tuigsinn an rud a th’ agam? Ann an dòigh tha thu a’ comhairleachadh ach ’s ann a’ bruidhinn riutha a tha thu. Fhios agad, ’s mathaid ag innse gun robh thu fhèin ann an suidheachadh caran an aon rud, mar a chaidh dhut anns an t-suidheachadh sin, mar a dhèilig thu ris an t-suidheachadh a tha sin, rudan a tha thu a’ smaoineachadh nach do dh’obraich dhut agus fhios agad tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gu bheil sin a’ toirt cofhurtachd dha daoine eile.

Free food

[Mairi] Scotch broth I think that I’m going to make today. I think that there are a few down there that like scotch broth. So if I have an opportunity I make that for them.

[Presenter] Every Monday Màiri and other women in the congregation prepare free food to take to the other end of the congregation in Hilton.

[Mairi] There is a lot of poverty in Balintore and those places. But I think the thing that I, we have noticed, you know “free lunch”, I think one or two people they say “what, is there a catch?” you know? And perhaps that is what keeps them away because we don’t see as many as we hoped for when we initially began but we are leaving that in the Creator’s hands. He can bring that around at any time.

[Presenter] After a year as a minister’s wife Màiri has noticed things about the role that she didn’t expect.

[Mairi] When you are in this role people want advice from you. And I think I never saw myself as someone who would advise someone else because well who am I to go and tell a person what is right or wrong in their life. You know, do you understand what I mean? In a way you are advising but you’re actually speaking to them. You know, perhaps saying that you yourself were in a similar situation, how it worked out for you in that situation, how you dealt with that situation, things you think didn’t work for you and you know I think that that gives comfort to other people.
