Dìleab na talmhainn

[Sweeny] Airson mo cho-là-breith nuair a bha mi bliadhn’ air fhichead a dh’aois thug mo phàrantan dhomh an lot seo. Dhòmhsa b’ e am preusant a b’ fheàrr a fhuair mi a-riamh a bh’ ann.

[Sweeny] Tha an talamh seo air a bhith anns an teaghlach airson bliadhnaichean ’s nuair a bha mi na mo bhalach beag bhithinn gu tric còmhla ri mo sheanair am measg ge bith dè bha a’ dol. Mar as tric’, caoraich. Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gur e sin a tha gam fhàgail cho dèidheil air caoraich an-diugh.

[Sweeny] Tha cuimhne a’m-s’ mus deach mi dhan sgoil, a h-uile madainn bhithinn ag èirigh, a’ ruith a-steach an lot gu far an robh mo sheanair ’s mo sheanmhair, an taigh anns a bheil mise an-diugh, agus tha dealbh agam na mo cheann an-dràsta a bhith a’ sreap an fheansa air chùl nabàthaich agus a’ leum a’ gheat’ ann am meadhan an lot ’s a’ dol a-steach dhan taigh.

[Anna] Nuair a bha Dòmhnall na bhalach beag ’s anns an sgoil, ceithir bliadhna a dh’aois, bhiodh e an-còmhnaidh còmhla ri a sheanair agus tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gur e sin a mhill e!

[Sweeny] Bhàsaich mo sheanair May eighty eight so cha robh mise ach ceithir bliadhn’ a dh’aois an uair sin so cha do chuir mi seachad tòrr ùine còmhla ris ach tha mi a’ creidsinn nuair a bha mi a trì ’s a ceithir, chan eil cuimhne a’m air tòrr ach tha e a-staigh ann an sin fhathast tha mi a’ smaoineachadh. Tha an obair a bha sin embedded.

Chaidh am prògram seo, An Lot, a chraoladh an toiseach ann an 2015. Le taing do MacTV.

Legacy of the land

[Sweeny] For my birthday when I was twenty one years old my parents gave me this croft. For me it’s the best present that I’ve ever received.

[Sweeny] This land has been in the family for years and when I was a wee boy I would often be with my grandfather amongst whatever was happening. Usually, sheep. I think that that’s what has left me so fond of sheep today.

[Sweeny] I remember before I went to school, every morning I would get up, run to the croft to where my grandfather and grandmother, the house that I’m in today, and I have a picture in my head just now of climbing the fence behind the byre and jumping the gate in the middle of the croft and going into the house.

[Anna] When Donald was a wee boy in school, four years old, he would always be with his grandfather and I think that that’s what ruined him!

[Sweeny] My grandfather died in May eighty eight so I was only four years old then so I didn’t spend lots of time with him but I believe when I was three and four, I don’t remember much but it’s in there still, I think. That work is embedded.
