An creideamh aig Mairead

[Mairead] Cha robh mi a’ ceasnachadh dad. Eil fhios agad, bha Dia nam bheatha agus sin e is bha dùil agam gun robh Dia ann am beatha a h-uile duine. Bha mi fhèin is Stan pòsta cha mhòr leth-cheud bliadhna agus bhiodh sinn a’ bruidhinn le chèile mu dheidhinn rudan agus tha cuimhne agam gun robh sinn a’ bruidhinn mu dheidhinn dè bhiodh a’ tighinn às deidh ar beatha agus uill cha robh mise dìreach buileach cinnteach ach bha Stan, bha esan, bha a chreideamh cho domhainn agus cha robh e a’ ceasnachadh riamh. Bha an creideamh agam gu math cudromach an-uiridh nuair a chaochail Stan, an duine agam. Tha mi a’ smaoineachadh, 's dòcha nach robh mo chreideamh-sa cho domhainn ri creideamh Stan oir tha cuimhne agam, bha e toilichte a bhith a’ falbh agus bha fios aige, thuirt e ris a’ ghille againn, uill cha b’ urrainn dha bruidhinn nuair bha e air life support, ach chuir e a chorrag suas gu nèamh an uair a thuirt an gille againn ris “see you around” agus chuir Stan a chorrag suas gu nèamh so bha sin uabhasach comforting. Fhuair mi fois oir bha fios agam nach robh eagal air idir. Bhon uair sin tha mo chreideamh-sa air fàs domhainn oir tha mi a’ bruidhinn ri Stan a h-uile latha 's a h-uile h-oidhche.

[Mairead] Dh’fhàs mi tinn aig toiseach na bliadhna agus ’s e aillse a bh’ ann. Ach cha robh eagal orm agus bha mi a’ bruidhinn ri Stan agus ag ràdh ris nach cuidich thu mi agus chuidich e agus tha mi cho math ’s a ghabhas. Bha creideamh Stan cho làidir ’s a ghabhas. Cha do cheasnaich e riamh agus, so mar sin tha mise a’ smaoineachadh gun d’ fhuair mise sìth oir bha fios agam gun robh esan, cha robh eagal air agus bha e airson a dhol dhachaigh. Bha sinn dlùth ri chèile an uair a bha e beò agus tha sinn dlùth fhathast.

[Mairead] Tha fios agam gum bi mi okay anns na làithean ’s na bliadhnaichean tha romham oir tha Stan còmhla rium agus tha mi a’ bruidhinn ris mar a thuirt mi a h-uile latha agus a h-uile h-oidhche ged nach eil e an seo, tha fios agam gu bheil e a’ coimhead sìos agus gam chumail sàbhailte.

[Mairead] Tha mi a’ faireachdainn uabhasach fhèin duilich airson daoine aig nach eil creideamh oir ’s e rud uabhasach a th’ ann a bhith a’ call an duine agad ach tha fios agamsa gun coinnich sinn a-rithist agus so mar sin chan eil e a cheart cho dona ach tha e dona gu leòr. Bha Aonghas MacMhathainn às na Flesherin ann an Leòdhas, bha esan agus Stan gu math pally agus nuair a chaochail Stan sgrìobh e pìos bàrdachd.

[Mairead] Ach fàsaidh an Lilidh a-rithist Stan

[Mairead] Fàsaidh an Lilidh na glòir

[Mairead] Brat grèiste dathte sgaoilte gu tìr

[Mairead] ‘S air do sgàths gach flùr bhileag le deòir.

[Mairead] Cha chualar bhon Lilidh gaol lìomhadh ged leònte

[Mairead] Ach am anam-sa cagair mo phian

[Mairead] ‘S mi air sireadh le dìcheall gach cuimhneachan gaoil

[Mairead] A mhaireas gach latha na mo smuain

[Mairead] Bheil còmhradh no cànan a dh’innseas gu fìor

[Mairead] Mu m’ ionndrainn mu m’ smuaintean, mu m’ Dhè

[Mairead] Mo mhiann nach robh ciaradh air d’fheasgair Stan

[Mairead] Ach mar beath’ ùr an Lilidh cha till

[Mairead] Fàsaidh a’ Lilidh a-rithist Stan

[Mairead ]Fasaidh a’ Lilidh na glòir

[Mairead ]Brat grèiste dathte sgaoilte gu tìr

[Mairead] ‘S air do sgàths gach flùr bhileag le deòir.

[Mairead] B’ fheàrr gun robh e ri mo thaobh fhathast, ach chan eil ach tha fios agam gu bheil e a’ coimhead sìos orm agus gu bheil e a’ toirt cuideachadh dhomh.

Chaidh am prògram seo, Alleluia, a chraoladh an toiseach ann an 2009.

Margaret’s faith

[Margaret] I didn’t question anything. You know, God was in my life and that’s it and I thought that God was in everyone’s life. Myself and Stan were married nearly fifty years and we would talk to each other about things and I remember that we talked about what would come after our life and well I wasn’t quite sure but Stan was, he was, his faith was so deep and he never questioned. My faith was very important last year when Stan, my husband, died. I think, maybe my faith wasn’t as deep as Stan’s because I remember, he was happy to leave and he knew, he said to our son, well he couldn’t speak when he was on life support, but he pointed his finger to heaven when our son said to him “see you around” and Stan pointed to heaven so that was very comforting. I was put at ease because I knew that he wasn’t scared at all. Since then my faith has become deeper because I speak to Stan every day and every night.

[Margaret] I got sick at the start of the year and it was cancer. But I wasn’t scared and I was speaking to Stan and asking him to help me and he did and I am as good as can be. Stan’s faith was as strong as could be. He never questioned and so because of that I think that I was put at ease because I knew that he, he wasn’t scared and he wanted to go home. We were close when he was alive and we are still close.

[Margaret] I know that I will be okay in the days and years ahead of me because Stan is with me and I talk to him as I said every day and every night although he’s not here, I know that he is looking down and keeping me safe.

[Margaret] I feel extremely sorry for people who don’t have faith because it’s an awful thing to lose your husband but I know that we will meet again and so because of that it’s not quite as bad but it’s bad enough. Angus Matheson from Flesherin in Lewis, he and Stan were very pally and when Stan died he wrote a poem.

[Margaret] But the Lily will grow again Stan

[Margaret] The Lily will grow in her glory

[Margaret] Brat grèidhte daithte sgaoilte gu tìr

[Margaret] And for your sake every petal with tears

[Margaret] A cry of sadness was not heard from the Lily although injured

[Margaret] But from my soul a whisper of pain

[Margaret] And me having searched with diligence each memory of love

[Margaret] That will last each day in my thoughts

[Margaret] Is there conversation or a language that will truthfully tell

[Margaret] Of my longing, my thoughts, my God

[Margaret] My wish that your life hadn’t ended Stan

[Margaret] But like the new life of a Lily it won’t return

[Margaret] But the Lily will grow again Stan

[Margaret] The Lily will grow in her glory

[Margaret] Brat grèidhte daithte sgaoilte gu tìr

[Margaret] And for your sake every petal with tears

[Margaret] I wish he was still beside me, but he isn’t but I know that he is looking down on me and that he is helping me.
