Planaichean ùra airson seann ospadal Loch nam Madadh

[Angela NicIlleathain – Preseantair] Tha gluasad san oidhirp seann Ospadal Loch nam Madadh a chur gu feum a-rithist. Chuir a' bhuidheann choimhearsnachd, An Torc Earranta, ann an Uibhist a Tuath tagradh a-steach airson a cheannach. Agus an t-seachdain-sa tighinn cumar an dàrna co-chomhairleachadh air na planaichean airson an togalach a leasachadh. Tha tuilleadh aig Shona NicDhòmhnaill.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Bidh 16 bliadhna air a’ mhìos bhon a dhùin ospadal Loch nam Madadh. Bho chionn greis a-nis tha a’ choimhearsnachd air a bhith a’ coimhead air gu dè ghabhadh dèanamh leis an togalach. An t-seachdain seo fhèin, tha a’ bhuidheann coimhearsnachd air ceum cudromach a ghabhail, ’s an amas aca sealbh fhaighinn air an ospadal agus an talamh mun cuairt air.

[Philip Harding] ‘S e mìos chudromach a th’ ann dhuinn, tha sinn air offer a chur a-staigh gun fheadhainn aig a bheil an talamh. Talamh ochd acraichean, beagan a bharrachd air ochd acraichean agus an uair sin an loch cuideachd.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Agus an t-ospadal fhèin?

[Philip Harding] Agus an t-ospadal fhèin, na togalaichean sin.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Dimàirt sa tighinn, bidh an dàrna co-chomhairleachadh ann an Loch nam Madadh air na leasachaidhean a tha san amharc airson goireas a bhios na bhuannachd airson na sgìre.

[Philip Harding] Cridhe dhen phròiseact, ’s e àite-fuirich airson 60 oileanach. Dìreach bho chionn ghoirid, mu mhìos air ais fhuair colaiste Leòdhais cead airson dol air adhart, dà bhliadhna eile a chur ris a’ chùrsa aca. Ron seo, of course bha aig oileanaich falbh gu Nairn cha chreid mi ma bha iad airson a’ chùrsa a leantainn.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Thathar cuideachd a’ sgrùdadh bheachdan air taigheadas agus goireasan luchd-turais.

[Philip Harding] Chan eil fhios agam an e sheltered housing no rudeigin mar sin a bhios ann. Tha àite airson businesses, hook ups no dhà, sin mar a tha an gnothach an-dràsta. Luchd-turais a’ tighinn a-staigh an Loch nam Madadh agus tha iad dìreach a’ falbh bhon bhaile agus chan fhaic thu tuilleadh iad.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Roimhe seo, nochd beachd làidir mun dreach a chòrdadh le daoine fhaicinn air an t-seann togalach.

[Philip Harding] Tha sgrùdadh, feasibility study, bha sin ann a’ bhòn-uiridh. Beachd aig a’ choimhearsnachd - bha iad airson façade cloiche a chumail air an t-seann ospadal agus na consultants a tha a’ dol a-staigh an-dràsta, feumaidh iad sgrùdadh an gabh sin a dhèanamh.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Tha obair gu leòr air thoiseach air a’ bhuidhinn ge-tà, mus tig aon chlach a ghluasad. Shona NicDhòmhnaill, BBC An Là, ann an Loch nam Madadh.

New plans for the old Lochmaddy Hospital

[Angela MacLean – Presenter] There has been progress in the effort to put Lochmaddy Hospital to use once more. The community group, ‘An Torc Earranta’ in North Uist have submitted a bid to buy it. This coming week the second consultation on developing the building will be held. Shona MacDonald has more.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] It will be 16 years this month since the closure of the hospital in Lochmaddy. For a while now the community have been looking at what can be done with the building. This week, the community group have taken an important step in their aim to buy the hospital and the surrounding land.

[Philip Harding] It’s an important month for us, we’ve put in an offer to those who own the land. Eight acres of land, well just over eight acres and the loch.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter And the hospital itself?

[Philip Harding] And the hospital itself, those buildings.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Next Tuesday, the second consultation will be held in Lochmaddy on the planned development of a facility which will benefit the area.

[Philip Harding] The heart of the project is housing for 60 students. Just recently, about a month ago Lews Castle College were given the go ahead to run their course for two more years. Before, students had to go to Nairn I believe if they wanted to do the course.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] They are also exploring ideas for housing and tourist facilities.

[Philip Harding] It could perhaps be sheltered housing or something like that. A place for businesses, for hook ups, that’s how things are looking just now. Tourists arrive in Lochmaddy and they leave the town, never to be seen again.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Previously, a strong idea emerged about how people wanted the appearance of the old building to look.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Research, a feasibility study was done the year before last. The community’s idea was that they wanted to keep the hospital’s stone façade and the consultants currently looking at the building must examine whether that can be done.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] There’s plenty work ahead of the group though, before any stone is turned. Shona MacDonald, BBC An Là in Lochmaddy.
