Sgioba snàimh nan Eilean Siar

[Doneil MacLeòid - Preseantair] Bidh na snàmhadairean òga as fheàrr ann an Alba a’ coinneachadh ann an Obar Dheathain a-màireach agus nam measg bidh buidheann bho sgioba snàimh nan Eileanan an Iar. Tha ceathrar air cuireadh fhaighinn dhan cho-fharpais, oir tha iad am measg an 20 as luaithe airson an aois aca ann an Alba. Chaidh Dòmhnall MacLaomainn a choinneachadh cuid dhiubh agus iad a’ dèanamh ullachadh mu dheireadh ron rèis.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn - Neach-aithris] Chan eil an obair a’ stad. Uairean a thìde de threànadh cha mhòr a h-uile latha. An amas Geamannan nan Eilean ann an Gotland an ath bhliadhn’. Ach an-dràsta tha iad ag ullachadh airson co-fharpais mhòr an Obar Dheathain aig an deireadh-sheachdain.

[Ceitidh] Uill feumaidh tu bhith anns a, am measg an fheadhainn as luaithe ann an Alba airson d’ aois airson faighinn a-steach dhan race a tha thusa ag iarraidh dèanamh so ‘s e farpais glè mhòr a th’ann.

[Lucy] It’s really important because you have to be in the top 20 in Scotland for your age group, so it’s a really big event.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn - Neach-aithris] Chuireadh e iongnadh air mòran an trèanadh a bhios na lùth-chleasaichean òga sa a’ dèanamh.

[Màiri Mhoireach] Oh uill tha iad a’ trèanadh a h-uile h-oidhch’ bho sia uairean gu suas ri leth uair an dèidh naoi agus aig na holidays tha iad a’ trèanadh anns a’ mhadainn cuideachd. Tha iad a’ dèanamh obair anns an gym cuideachd.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn - Neach-aithris] ‘S e soirbheas a th’ ann cuireadh fhaighinn chun a’ cho-fharpais sa ann an Obar Dheathain sa chiad dol a-mach. Ach na h-amasan a th’ aig a’ chlann-nighean?

[Lucy] Just basically to get a PB, fast reactions off the dive, good pool and stuff like that.

[Ceitidh] Tha mi dìreach ag iarraidh snàmh cho luath ‘s as urrainn dhomh ‘s dèanamh cho math ‘s as urrainn dhomh. ‘S chan eil mi smaoineachadh mu dheidhinn finals no medals fhathast, tha mi dìreach ag iarraidh snàmh cho luath ‘s as urrainn dhomh.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn - Neach-aithris] Tha sgeulachd na sgioba-sa ainmeil am measg saoghal snàimh na h-Alba. Farpaisich a tha trèanadh glè thric an amar snàmh leth cho mòr ris an tè-sa ann an Steòrnabhagh ann an Nis, a’ farpais aig an ìre as àirde ann an Alba.

[Màiri Mhoireach] Uill anns a’ chiad àit’ feumaidh iad fhèin a bhith ag iarraidh a dhèanamh agus tha an commitment aca ‘s tha an drive aca airson a bhith ag iarraidh a bhith dol nas fheàrr ‘s nas fheàrr. Agus na tha iad a’ dèanamh de threànadh sa h-uile càil. Tha an coidse againn math, feumaidh sinn a ràdh, tha DR uabhasach math.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn - Neach-aithris] Às dèidh cho soirbheachail ‘s a tha Kara Hanlon agus Kathryn Offer air a bhith anns na bliadhnaichean a dh’ fhalbh, cha leig eagal sam bith a bhith air an sgioba-sa nach eil ginealach ùr a’ cheart cho tàlantach air an cùlaibh. Dòmhnall MacLaomainn, BBC An Là, Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais.

Western Isles swimming team

[Doneil MacLeod – Presenter] The best young swimmers in Scotland will meet in Aberdeen tomorrow and among them will be a group from the Western Isles swimming team. Four of them have received an invitation to the competition, as they are among the 20 fastest for their age in Scotland. Donald Lamont went to meet some of them as they were doing final preparations for the race.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] The work doesn’t stop. Hours of training almost every day. The aim – the Island Games in Gotland next year. But now they are preparing for the big competition in Aberdeen at the weekend.

[Katy] Well you need to be among the fastest in Scotland for your age to get into the race you want to compete in, so it’s a very big competition.

[Lucy] It’s really important because you have to be in the top 20 in Scotland for your age group, so it’s a really big event.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] A lot of people would be surprised at the amount of training these young athletes do.

[Mary Morrison] Oh well they’re training each night from six o’ clock up to half past nine and at the holidays they train in the mornings too. They also do work in the gym.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] It’s an accomplishment to receive an invite to this competition in Aberdeen in the first place. But what are the girls’ aims?

[Lucy] Just basically to get a PB, fast reactions off the dive, good pool and stuff like that.

[Katy] I just want to swim as fast as I can and do my best. And I’m not thinking about finals or medals yet, I just want to swim as fast as I can.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] This team’s story is quite a famous one in the swimming world in Scotland. Competitors who very often train in a swimming pool half the size of this one in Stornoway, in Ness, competing at the highest level in Scotland.

[Mary Morrison] Well first of all they have to want to do it themselves and they have the commitment and the drive to want to keep getting better and better. And the amount of training they do and everything. Our coach is great, we must say, DR is really good.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] After how successful of Kara Hanlon and Kathryn Offer have been in previous years, the team need not be worried that the new generation coming up behind them aren’t just as talented. Donald Lamont, BBC An Là, Lewis sports centre.
