Fòram ùr air eachdraidh na h-eaglais air Ghàidhealtachd

[Angela NicIlleathain – Preseantair] Tha oidhirp às ùr ga dhèanamh sgoilearachd air eachdraidh na h-eaglais air a’ Ghàidhealtachd a bhrosnachadh. Stèidhich Colaiste Diadhachd na Gàidhealtachd ann an Inbhir Pheofharain fòram ùr air eachdraidh agus bidh a’ chiad cho-labhairt aca an ath mhìos. Tha iad an dùil gun gabh luchd-eachdraidh anns an fharsaingeachd agus am mòr-shluagh ùidh ann. Tha Dòmhnall Moireasdan ag aithris.

[Dòmhnall Moireasdan – Neach-aithris] Allt na Tòisidheachd anns an Eilean Dubh. Ri taobh an uillt sa, anns an 19mh linn, bhiodh seirbheisean adhraidh mòr gan cumail air a bhlàr a-muigh. Tha an t-àite sònraichte ann an eachdraidh eaglais na Gàidhealtachd.

[Dòmhnall Moireasdan – Neach-aithris] Tha eachdraidh nam mìltean a bhiodh a’ cruinneachadh mun cuairt an seo airson adhradh air a bhlàr a-muigh fhathast air chuimhne. Ach, ‘s iomadh pìos de dh’ eachdraidh eaglais agus creideimh air a’ Ghàidhealtachd nach deach a rannsachadh gu ìre mhòr. Agus ‘s ann airson sin a tha am fòram ùr a tha seo.

[Dòmhnall Moireasdan – Neach-aithris] Tha Inbhir Pheofharain, far a bheil Colaiste Diadhachd na Gàidhealtachd stèidhichte, am bogadh ann an eachdraidh eaglaisean. Tha iad air a bhith a’ coimhead ri fòram eachdraidh a stèidheachadh bho chionn bhliadhnaichean, an dèidh comhairle bhon sgoilear Cheiltis, an t-Ollamh Dòmhnall Meek.

[An t-Urr Eachann Moireasdan] ’S e aon de na rudan air an robh e a’ bruidhinn, gu robh beàrn mòr ann a thaobh sgoilearachd acadaimigeach agus rannsachadh a thaobh eachdraidh na h-eaglais agus uill tha sinne a’ feuchainn ri beagan dhen bheàrn sin a lìonadh leis a’ cho-labhairt seo agus am fòram a tha sinn a’ cur air chois.

[Dòmhnall Moireasdan – Neach-aithris] Bidh farsaingeachd chuspairean anns a’ chiad cho-labhairt an ath mhìos, leithid òraid bhon eachdraiche ainmeil Marjory Harper air eilthireachd agus creideamh. Eilthireachd a bha uaireannan air fhaicinn mar mhac-talla air ecsodus nan Iùdhach às an Èipheit.

[Dòmhnall Moireasdan – Neach-aithris] ‘S e ‘Seasons of Change & Times of Crisis’ ainm na co-labhairt. Ach, chan e a-mhàin atharrachaidhean eaglaiseach a tha fa-near dhaibh. Bidh mòran de dh’ eachdraidh eile na Gàidhealtachd air a thoirt a-steach cuideachd. ‘S tha dòchas gun tog sin ùidh a’ mhòr-shluaigh.

[An t-Urr Eachann Moireasdan] Gum biodh cothrom aig an t-sluagh anns an fharsaingeachd a bhith beachdachadh air eachdraidh na h-eaglais, eachdraidh na Gàidhealtachd anns an fharsaingeachd. Tha ceangal mòr eatorra, ceangal dlùth eadar creideamh agus a’ choimhearsnachd anns an fharsaingeachd.

[Dòmhnall Moireasdan – Neach-aithris] ’S dòcha nach robh aon rud eile cho tric a’ toirt buaidh air eachdraidh na Gàidhealtachd ri creideamh. Le fòram ùr airson sin a rannsachadh ‘s a dheasbad, bu chòir gum bi barrachd tuigse againn uile air a’ bhuaidh a bh’ aige. Dòmhnall Mhoireasdan, BBC An Là, Inbhir Pheofharain.

A new forum on Highland church history

[Angela MacLean – Presenter] A new bid is being made to promote the scholarship of Highland church history. The Highland Theological College in Dingwall has set up a new history forum and they will hold their first conference next month. They hope historians in general and the public will take an interest in it. Donald Morrison reports.

[Donald Morrison – Reporter] Allt na Tòisidheachd in the Black Isle. Beside this stream, in the 19th Century, large services of worship took place outdoors. The place is significant in Highland church history.

[Donald Morrison – Reporter] The history of the thousands who would gather around here to worship outdoors is still remembered. But, many parts of the history of church and religion on the Highlands hasn’t been fully researched. And it is because of this the new forum has been set up.

[Donald Morrison – Reporter] Dingwall, where the Highland Theological College is, is steeped in church history. They have been looking at setting up a history forum for years, after receiving advice from the Celtic scholar, Professor Donald Meek.

[Rev Hector Morrison] One of the things he spoke of, was that there was a large gap in academic scholarship and research with regard to church history and well, we are trying to fill some of that gap with this conference and the forum we are setting up.

[Donald Morrison – Reporter] There will be a range of subjects in the first conference next month, such as a lecture from the renowned historian Marjory Harper on emigration and religion. Emigration which was sometimes seen as echoing The Israelite Exodus from Egypt.

[Donald Morrison – Reporter] ‘Seasons of Change & Times of Crisis’ is the title of the conference. But it’s not only church related changes which await them. It will take in a lot of other Highland history too. There’s hope this will be of interest to the public.

[Rev Hector Morrison] That the public in general will get an opportunity to deliberate church history, Highland history in general. There is a great connection between them, a strong tie between religion and the community in general.

[Donald Morrison – Reporter] There’s perhaps nothing else which affects Highland history as much as religion. With a new forum to research and debate this, we should all gain a better understanding of the impact it had. Donald Morrison, BBC An Là, Dingwall.
