270 bliadhna bho Bhlàr Chùil Lodair

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacIlleathain – Preseantair] Nise tha 270 bliadhna ga chomharrachadh bho bha Blàr Chùil Lodair ann. Am-bliadhna, gheibh daoine cothrom pìosan ealain ùra den Phrionnsa Teàrlach agus na Seumasaich fhaicinn aig Taigh-Tasgaidh Inbhir Nis. 'S e "Jacobites by Name" an t-ainm a th' air an taisbeanadh, agus tha e am measg sreath de rudan a bhios a' dol am-bliadhna. Tha Karen Oakley ag aithris.

[Karen Oakley – Neach-aithris] Ìomhaighean ùr dhen Phrionnsa òg. Bha cruinneachadh mòr de dh’ ìomhaighean nan Seumasach mar-thà aig Taigh-tasgaidh Inbhir Nis, a’ chuid as motha dhiubh sin bhon 18mh linn. Ach le taic bho Ghailearaidhean Nàiseanta na h-Alba, thugair cothrom do neach-ealain dreach ùr a chur air an ealain. Ealain, thathas an dòchas, a chòrdas ri luchd-amhairc an latha an-diugh.

[Cait MacCullagh] Calum’s work is a response, it’s a contemporary response particularly to the theme of secret and seditious Jacobitism. So he took items from our collections and he created works which reflect them but in contemporary media. So we have ceramics, we have photography, we have media that’s much more familiar to us in our everyday lives but still resonating with this idea of Jacobites as people who were powerfully present in the everyday lives of people across Scotland.

[Karen Oakley – Neach-aithris] Ach chan ann tro na h-eileanan a-mhàin a bhios buidhnean a’ comharrachadh Blàr Chùil Lodair air a’ mhìos sa.

[Karen Oakley – Neach-aithris] Air ceann-bliadhna a’ bhlàir, bidh seirbheis cuimhneachaidh aig Comann Gàidhlig Inbhir Nis. ‘S e clach-mhìle a th’ ann don Chomann, ‘s e 90 bhon a thòisich iad a bhith cumail nan seirbheisean.

[Murchadh Caimbeul] Tha daoine tighinn bho air feadh an t-saoghail chun na seirbheis seo airson an latha a chomharrachadh agus tha sinn a’ faicinn seo air leudachadh a-mach mar a tha bliadhnaichean air a dhol air adhart agus ‘s e deagh rud a th’ann. Tha e duilich uaireannan dèanamh a-mach an uidh a th’ aig daoine ann a bhith tighinn ann air an latha seo. ‘S e am blàr mu dheireadh a chaidh a shabaid air talamh Alba agus tha mi creidsinn gu bheil sin fhèin sònraichte cuideachd. Agus an cogadh a bu ghoirid a bh’ ann riamh cuideachd. Agus leis an sin tha rudan caran sònraichte mu dheidhinn a’ bhlàir.

[Karen Oakley – Neach-aithris] Tha an t-seirbheis cuimhneachaidh mar phàirt de thachartas a mhaireas latha le Urras Nàiseanta na h-Alba. Bidh cuideachd taisbeanadh mu arc-eòlas ar-a-mach nan Seumasach, a’ sealltainn gu bheil iarrtas fhathast airson fiosrachadh mun bhlàr mu dheireadh a chaidh a shabaid air talamh Bhreatainn. Karen Oakley, BBC An Là, Inbhir Nis.

270 years since the Battle of Culloden

English Beurla

[Iain MacLean – Presenter] Now, the Battle of Culloden’s 270th anniversary is to be commemorated. This year, people will get the opportunity to see new artwork of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. ‘Jacobites by Name’ is the title of the exhibition and it’s among a series of events taking place this year. Karen Oakley reports.

[Karen Oakley – Reporter] New images of the young Prince. Inverness Museum and Art Gallery already had a large collection of images of the Jacobites, most from the 18th Century. But with help from National Galleries of Scotland, an opportunity was given to a new artist to give new life to the artwork. Pieces of art they hope audiences today will enjoy.

[Kate MacCullagh] Calum’s work is a response, it’s a contemporary response particularly to the theme of secret and seditious Jacobitism. So he took items from our collections and he created works which reflect them but in contemporary media. So we have ceramics, we have photography, we have media that’s much more familiar to us in our everyday lives but still resonating with this idea of Jacobites as people who were powerfully present in the everyday lives of people across Scotland.

[Karen Oakley – Reporter] But it’s not only in islands where groups will mark the anniversary of the Battle of Culloden this month.

[Karen Oakley – Reporter] On the anniversary of the battle, Comann Gàidhlig Inbhir Nis will have a remembrance service. It’s a milestone for the society, 90 years since they began holding the service.

[Murdo Campbell] People come from across the world to this service to mark this day and we’ve seen it grow over the years, which is good. It can be difficult to gauge the interest people have in it in this day and age. It’s the last battle fought on Scottish soil and I believe that in itself, is remarkable. And the shortest battle there was too. These things make it a unique battle.

[Karen Oakley – Reporter] The remembrance service is part of a two day event held by the National Trust for Scotland. There will also be an exhibition on the archaeology of the Jacobite Rebellion, proving that there is indeed still demand for information on the last battle to take place on British soil. Karen Oakley, BBC An Là, Inverness.
