Togail don Ghàidhlig an Loch Abar

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] Tha Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abair mu thràth air togail a thoirt dhan chànan san sgìre, a rèir ceannard na sgoile. Bha Iain Iòsaph MacNèill a' bruidhinn agus nas lugha na ceithir mìosan ann bhon a dh'fhosgail an sgoil ùr ann an Caol a' Ghearastain. Chaidh latha fosgailte a chumail anns an sgoil air an deireadh-sheachdain agus chaidh am fear-naidheachd againn, Andreas Wolff, cuairt a choimhead oirre.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Cha b’e glag na sgoile a bha dol ann am Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abair air an deireadh-sheachdain, ged a bha i fosgailte.

[Iain Iòsaph MacNèill] Bhon a thòisich sinn anns an Lùnastal, tha Pàrant is Pàiste a-nis againn, tha Cròileagan Grianach againn Diluain, Diciadain agus Dihaoine agus cuideachd Sgoil Àraich agus a’ Bhun-sgoil fhèin. Agus tha sinn an dèidh a bhith gu math fortanach gu bheil inbhich an dèidh a bhith a’ tighinn a-staigh gu clasaichean Gàidhlig.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Bha latha fosgailte aig Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abair air an deireadh sheachdain agus tha seachdad sgoilear a’ dol innte an-dràsta. Ach tha iad ag innse dhomh gu bheil rùm ann airson barrachd.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] B’ àbhaist do dh’ ionad Gàidhlig a bhith stèidhichte ach saoil tha math mun sgoil ùr?

[Pàiste 1] Tha mi a’ dol gu iomain, ball-coise agus latha Disathairne an cluba spòrs.

[Pàiste 2] Tha taghadh mòr ann agus tòrr iPads agus laptops.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha tòrr ghoireasan aig an sgoil ùr seo. Ach tha cuid a bhuidhnean Gàidhlig a tha ag obair san sgìre ga h-ùisneachadh cuideachd.

[Vicky NicIlleathain] Bidh e nas fhasa a thaobh pròiseactan a tha sinn ag obair air. e diofar ma tha sinn ag obair air pròiseact le chèile is stuth mar sin agus tha e math dìreach a bhith mar phàirt den sgoil cuideachd agus tha mi smaointinn gur e rud fìor mhath a th’ ann sinne a bhith an seo cuideachd.

[Catriona NicIlleathain] Tha mise smaointinn gur e rud fìor mhath a th’ ann a bhith taobh a-staigh coimhearsnachd Ghàidhlig. Chan e dìreach sgoil th’ann ach coimhearsnachd.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Agus tha Maighstir MacNèill mar-thà a’ faicinn nam buannachdan a th’ ann an Sgoil Ghàidhlig.

[Iain Iòsaph MacNèill] Tha na sgoilearan againn a’ bruidhinn fad na h-ùine ann an Gàidhlig a-nis agus a thaobh bogadh agus na tha sinn a’ sùileachadh ann am foghlam tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig a-nise. Tha diofar mòr ann agus tha na sgoilearan fhèin a’ faireachdann gu bheil iad mar phàirt de choimhearsnachd dh’ fhaodadh nach eil cho mòr nuair a tha thu ann an roinn, gu bheil coimhearsnachd aca, coimhearsnachd a th’ ann an Gàidhlig làn ùine agus na diofar rudan a tha iad a’ faighinn, na cuirmean agus tachartasan a tha a’ tachairt anns an sgoil a thaobh gu bheil Gàidhlig againn.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha na sgoilearan a’ tighinn bho àitichean cho fad air falbh ri Gleann Fhionnainn, Baile a’ Chaolais agus Drochaid Ruaidh. Andreas Wolff, BBC An ann an Caol a’ Ghearastan.

Gaelic given a boost in Lochaber

[Innes Munro – Presenter] Lochaber Gaelic Primary School has already given the Gaelic language a boost in the area, according to the Head Teacher. John Joseph MacNeil was speaking less than 4 months since the new school opened in Caol, Fort William. An open day was held in the school at the weekend and our reporter, Andreas Wolff, went to see it.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] It wasn’t the school bell that was ringing in Lochaber Gaelic Primary School at the weekend, although it was open.

[John Joseph MacNeil] Since we began in August, we now have a Gaelic Parent & Child Group, we have our playgroup, Cròileagan Grianach, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and also there’s the nursery and the primary school itself. And we’ve also been very lucky that we’ve had adults coming in to our Gaelic classes.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] An open day was held at Lochaber Gaelic Primary School at the weekend and they have 70 pupils attending at the moment. But they tell me that there’s room for more.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] There was a Gaelic medium unit but what is good about the new school?

[Child 1] I go to shinty, football and sports club on a Saturday.

[Child 2] There’s a big choice and lots of iPads and laptops.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] This school has a lot of new facilities, but some Gaelic groups working in the area use it too.

[Vicky MacLean] It’ll be easier in terms of projects we’re working on. It’ll make a difference if we’re working on a project together and things like that and its good just to be a part of the school and I think it’s really good for us to be here too.

[Katrina MacLean] I think it’s a great thing to be within a Gaelic community. It’s not just a school but a community.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] And Mr MacNeil already sees the benefits of a Gaelic school.

[John Joseph MacNeil] Our pupils speak in Gaelic all the time now, they are immersed in it and this is what we envisage now with Gaelic medium education. There’s a big difference and the pupils themselves feel like they are part of a community, which isn’t so big when you’re in a department. They have a community, a full-time Gaelic community and different things available to them, concerts and events which take place in the school, because they have Gaelic.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] The pupils come from places from as far away as Glenfinnan, Ballachulish and Roybridge. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là in Caol, Fort William.
