Duaisean gu leòr san Òban

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] ‘S i Flòraidh NicPhàil à Tiriodh bàrd ùr a' Chomuinn Ghàidhealaich. Chan eil ach còignear bhoireannach air an tiotal fhaighinn bhon a thòisichear ga thoirt seachad ann an 1923. Tha tuilleadh aig Andreas Wolff.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] ‘B e litreachais a bh’ ann an-diugh cuideachd aig a’ Mhòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail agus chaidh iomadach duais a thoirt seachad airson leabhraichean agus sgeulachdan. A bharrachd air sin, fhuair Cairistìona NicChoinnich duais neach-ionnsachaidh na bliadhna. Tha i à Steòrnabhagh agus dh’ ionnsaich i a’ Ghàidhlig aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig agus aig Colaiste a’ Chaisteil. Tha i an-dràsta ag obair aig Pròiseact nan Ealan.

[Cairistìona NicChoinnich] Bha mi a’ cluinntinn Gàidhlig san taigh agus nuair a bha duine tighinn dhan taigh bhiodh iad a’ bruidhinn Gàidhlig. Tha mi air a bhith a’ cluinntinn Gàidhlig fad mo bheatha ach bha mi bruidhinn ann am Beurla agus tha e gu math duilich a bhith feuchainn a bhith bruidhinn ann an Gàidhlig nuair a tha thu cleachdte ri bhith bruidhinn ann am Beurla.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Choisinn Flòraidh NicPhàil à Tiriodh duais Bàrd a' Chomuinn Ghàidhealaich. ‘B e tidsear a bh’ innte agus tha i air mòran dhaoine a bhrosnachadh gus Gàidhlig ionnsachadh. Ged a chaidh duais Bàrd a' Chomuinn a thoirt seachad an toiseach ann an 1923, cha d’ fhuair ach còignear bhoireannach an duais ron seo.

[Flòraidh NicPhàil] Chan àbhaist dhomh bhith anns an spotlight mar seo ach ‘s e urram a th’ ann agus feumaidh mi aideachadh gu bheil e toirt toileachas dhòmhsa agus ma tha na rudan a tha mise a’ sgrìobhadh a’ toirt toileachas do dhaoine eile uill, tha sin gasta.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] B’ i Flòraidh a sgrìobh an t-òran Maraiche nan Cuantan a’ choisinn duais aig a’ Mhòd ann an 2001. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, an t-Oban.

Plenty prizes being awarded in Oban

[Innes Munro – Presenter] Flora MacPhail from Tiree is An Comunn Gàidhealach’s new bard. Only five women have received this title since it was first awarded in 1923. Andreas Wolff has more.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] Today was also a literature day at the Royal National Mod and many prizes were awarded for books and stories. In addition to this, Christina MacKenzie received the prize for gaelic learner of the year. She’s from Stornoway and she learnt Gaelic at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and at the Lews Castle College. She now works for the Gaelic Arts Agency.

[Christina MacKenzie] I was hearing Gaelic at home and when people came to the house they would speak Gaelic. I’ve been hearing Gaelic all my life but I spoke in English and it’s quite difficult to try and speak in Gaelic when you’re used to speaking in English.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] Flora MacPhail from Tiree was awarded the prize of An Comunn Gàidhealach’s Bard. She was a teacher and she has encouraged many people to learn Gaelic. Although the prize of Bard was first awarded by An Comunn in 1923, only five women have received it before now.

[Flora MacPhail] I’m not normally in the spotlight like this but it is an honour and I have to admit that it makes me happy and if what I write brings joy to others well, that’s excellent.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] It was Flora who wrote the song Maraiche nan Cuantan, which won a prize at the Mod in 2001. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, Oban.

Chithear an tar-sgrìobhadh Gàidhlig anns a’ chiad dol a-mach. Ach, gheibhear eadar-theangachadh Beurla den tar-sgrìobhadh le bhith a’ taghadh Beurla no Gàidhlig agus Beurla. The Gaelic transcript is shown by default. However, you can see a translation of the transcript by selecting the English or Gaelic and English tabs.

Key vocabulary is also provided, with accompanying Gaelic audio. This is a selected from the vocabulary contained in the news report and may include a selection of place names, news terminology, useful colloquialisms and phrases.
