Oifis a' Phuist Ceann a' Bhàigh

[Dòmhnall Moireasdan] Tha grunn ghearanan air nochdadh mu sheirbheis Oifis a' Phuist ann an Ceann a' Bhàigh ann an Uibhist a Tuath. Chan eil an oifis fosgailte ach sia uairean a thìde gach seachdain, ach bho chionn ghoirid tha làithean nach eil e air fosgladh idir. Leis an sin thàinig air daoine siubhal gu ruige Loch nam Madadh no Baile a' Mhanaich. Chaidh leisgeul a thabhainn airson na thachair o chionn ghoirid. Tha Shona NicDhòmhnaill ag aithris.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] 'S ann air taobh an iar Uibhist a Tuath a tha a' chuid as motha de shluagh an eilein a' fuireach. Ach, a dh’aindeoin sin chan eil ri fhaighinn ach sia uairean san t-seachdain eadar latha de sheirbheis Oifis a’ Phuist. Bho chionn greis a-nis chan eil fiù ‘s na beagan uairean sin fhèin de sheirbheis air a bhith cunbhalach. Suidheachadh a tha na thrioblaid don choimhearsnachd.

[Mòrag NicBheathain] Oh tha gu dearbha. Tha sgìre mhòr an seo, o dh'fhàgas tu an sgoil gun ruig thu a-null an cladach. Bha iad sin uile ag usaigeadh a’ phost office. Ach, feumaidh iad a-nis a dhol gu àiteigin eile mura bi i fosgailte.

[Mòrag Dhòmhnallach] Tha gum feum sinn tagsaidh fhaighinn, mi fhèin agus an a tha thall an ath-dhoras dhomh an seo. Feumaidh sinn sin fhaighinn a h-uile madainn Diluain sìos a Cheann a' Bhàigh. Uaireannan cha bhi fhios againn gun ruig sinn co-dhiù tha i gus a bhith fosgailte no nach eil. ‘S ma tha i dùinte feumaidh sinn a dhol gu Loch nam Madadh.

[An Comh. Ùisdean Robasdan] Fhios agad a thaobh còmhdhail mar eisimpleir agus tha seo air a bhith a’ tachairt grunn thursan anns na seachdainean a th’ air a dhol seachad agus tha e mar gum biodh e a' fàs nas miosa mar a tha an ùine a' dol air adhart, agus tha e cosgail do dhuine sam bith ma dh'fheumas iad tagsaidh fhaighinn a-mach a Loch nam Madadh no a Bheinn na Faoghla.

[Shona NicDhòmhnaill – Neach-aithris] Ged is ann sa bhùth seo a tha seirbheis Oifis a’ Phuist ri fhaighinn ann an Ceann a’ Bhàigh, chan eil turas aig a’ bhùth fhèin ris an t-seirbheis sin. ‘S ann a thathar ga ruith à Oifis a’ Phuist ann am Baile a’ Mhanaich. Thuirt Iar-Mhaighstir Postachd Bhaile a' Mhanaich, Cailean Caimbeul: "Tha sinn a' tairgsinn ar leisgeul dhan luchd-cleachdaidh nach robh seirbheis ri fhaotainn an t-seachdain seo. ‘S e a' chiad uair nach robh seirbheis ri fhaighinn air co-dhiù aon den t-seachdain. Thuirt neach-labhairt bho Oifis a' Phuist: "Faodaidh daoine a tha ag iarraidh seirbheis Oifis a' Phuist goireasach sam bith a chleachdadh, nam measg Oifis a' Phuist aig a' Chlachan, ann an Stòr a' Chlachain." Ach dhùin a' bhùth sin bho chionn ghoirid, agus tha mì-chinnt ann mun t-seirbheis a tha ri fhaighinn.

[Mòrag NicBheathain] Oir b' àbhaist dhuinn a dhol chun a' Chlachain, ach bha an uair sin làithean eile a bhitheamaid ann nuair nach robh airgead gu leòr aca. Chanadh i fhèin rinn "sorry, no money for you today.”

Bayhead Post Office

[Donald Morrison] There has been a great deal of complaints about the Post Office service in Bayhead in North Uist. The office is only open six hours a day each week, but recently there’s been days when it hasn’t opened at all. Consequently people had to travel to Lochmaddy or Balivanich. An apology was recently offered for what happened. Shona MacDonald reports.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Most of the island’s population is on the west side. But despite this, there is only six hours a week over two days of Post Office service provided. For a while now even these short hours of service have not been regular. A difficult situation for the community.

[Mòrag MacBain] Oh indeed it is. This is a big area, from the school until you reach over to the shore. They were all using the Post Office. But now they need to go elsewhere if it isn’t open.

[Mòrag MacDonald] We need to get a taxi, myself and the woman next door to me here. We have to get one every Monday morning down to Bayhead. Sometimes we don’t know until we reach there if it’s going to be open or not. And if it’s shut we have to go to Lochmaddy.

[Cllr Hugh Robertson] You know, with regards to transport for example and this has been happening frequently in the past few weeks and it’s getting worse as time goes on. It’s expensive for anyone who needs to get a taxi out to Lochmaddy or to Benbecula.

[Shona MacDonald – Reporter] Although the Bayhead Post Office is in this shop, the shop itself doesn’t have anything to do with the service. It’s run from the Post Office in Balivanich. Balivanich’s Deputy Postmaster, Colin Campbell, said: “We offer our apologies to customers that there were no services available this week. This is the first time that there a service wasn’t available at least one day of the week. A spokesperson from Post Office said: “Anybody who requires the service can use any convenient Post Office, the Post Office at the Clachan, in Clachan stores amongst others. But that shop closed recently and there is uncertainty about the service available.

[Mòrag MacBain] We used to go to the Clachan, but then there were other days when they didn’t have enough money. She would say to us “sorry, no money for you today.”
