Iomairt Òigridh is Deagh-euchdachd

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] Thàinig mìosan de dh’obair gu ceann airson cuid de sgoilearan Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu an-diugh. Mar phàirt den iomairt, an Youth Philanthropy Initiative, bha aca ri buidheann carthannais a thaghadh agus obair na buidhne sin a thaisbeanadh. Chaidh cuairt-dheireannach na farpais a chumail an-diugh le grant de £3000 a’ dol chun charthannais aig an sgoil a b’ fheàrr a rinn. Seo Kerr Gibb.

[Kerr Gibb – Neach-aithris] Ceithir britheamhan, seachd sgiobaidhean agus £3000 ri ghleidheadh airson aon bhuidheann charthannais. Seo an Iomairt Òigridh is Deagh-euchdachd, air a bheil sgoilearan aig Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu air a bhith ag obair.

[Donalda NicComb] An t-amas a tha air cùlaibh an seòrsa pròiseict a tha seo ‘s e a bhith toirt sgilean, no a’ leasachadh sgilean na h-òigridh, gu h-àraidh mun cuairt air a bhith ag obair còmhla ann an buidhnean, a’ dèanamh rannsachadh, toirt seachad beachdan agus a’ cur a h-uile sìon ri chèile ann an dòigh tarraingeach airson am phoball air am beulaibh. Tha an carthannas fhèin, tha sinn ga chur gu aon taobh nuair a tha sinn a’ coimhead air a’ bhuidheann as fheàrr ach aig deireadh gnothaich tha an carthannas sin a’ faighinn luach £3000 airson an obair a tha iad a’ dèanamh.

[Kerr Gibb – Neach-aithris] Am -measg nam britheamhan bha dithis seann sgoilear bhon Sgoil Ghàidhlig, Helen NicNèill a tha ag obair le buidhnean charthannais ann an Glaschu agus ceannard na sgoile, Donalda NicComb.. Thug gach sgioba taisbeanadh seachad ag innse mu obair na buidhne carthannais a thaghadh iad agus gu cudromach - dhèanadh a’ bhuidheann sin leis an airgead. Agus an-dèidh cothrom dha na britheamhan meòrachadh air na chuala iad, chaidh ainmeachadh gun tèid trì mile not ri Women’s Aid Lannraig a Deas an dèidh do sgioba Zach, Conall, Jessica is Lauren soirbheachadh.

[Zach] Chaidh sinn dhan charthannas agus fhuair sinn a-mach tòrr fiosrachaidh mu dheidhinn a’charthannas agus na rudan a tha iad a’ dèanamh agus an uair sin leis an fhiosrachadh sin thill sinn air ais dhan sgoil agus chuir sinn ri chèile presentation.

[Kerr Gibb – Neach-aithris] Agus gu follaiseach thug obair Woman’s Aid buaidh mhòr air an sgioba.

[Zach] Nuair a chaidh sinn dhan charthannas bha fios againn as dèidh mionaid no dhà gun robh feum againn rudeigin a dhèanamh airson a’ charthannais seo agus a-nis tha sinn gu math toilichte gu bheil sinn air sin a dhèanamh.

[Kerr Gibb – Neach-aithris] Dh’inns Helen NicNèill gu bheil an ùidh is an aire a sheall an òigridh air fad dhan cuid cathrannasan aig a’ cheann thall a cheart cho cudromach ris an airgead agus le sin chaidh amas na h-iomairt a choileanadh. Kerr Gibb, BBC An Là, Glaschu.

Youth Philanthropy Initiative

[Innes Munro – Presenter] Months of work came to a head for some of Glasgow Gaelic School’s pupils today. As part of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, they had to choose a charity and exhibit their work. The final of the competition took place today with a grant of £3000 going to the charity of the team which did best. Here’s Kerr Gibb.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] Four judges, seven teams and £3000 to be won for one charity. This is the Youth Philanthropy Initiative which pupils from Glasgow Gaelic School have been working on.

[Donalda McComb] The aim of this type of project is to give young people skills, or develop their skills, especially teamwork, researching, giving opinions and putting it all together in a way that’s appealing to the public. The charities themselves, we’re putting them to one side while we decide which group is the best at the end of it and the charity gets £3000 for the work they do.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] Amongst the judges were two ex-pupils from the Gaelic School, Helen MacNeil who works with a charity in Glasgow and the school’s head teacher, Donalda McComb. Each team did a presentation, explaining the work their chosen charity does and more importantly – what the group would do with the money.

[Zach] We went to the charity and we found out lots about them and they things they do. With this information we then returned to school and put together a presentation.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] And it was clear that the work of Women’s Aid had an impact on the team.

[Zach] When we went to the charity we knew after a couple of minutes that we had to try and help them and now we are so happy we have done so.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] Helen MacNeil expressed how the interest shown and awareness that all young people had for their charities was, at the end of the day, as important as the prize money and with that, the aims of the scheme were achieved. Kerr Gibb, BBC An Là, Glasgow.
