Còisir Ghàidhlig Ìleach Ghlaschu a’ comharrachadh 25 bliadhna le Kirsteen Ghrannd

[Iain MacAonghais – Preseantair] Ann an 1990 chaidh am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail a chumail ann am Baile Ghobhainn ann an Glaschu, agus chaidh am baile ainmeachadh mar Phrìomh Bhaile Cultarail na Roinn Eòrpa. Cuideachd air a’ bhliadhna sin ge-tà, ghabh Kirsteen Ghrannd obair stiùiriche le Còisir Ghàidhlig Ìleach Ghlaschu agus am-bliadhna tha a’ chòisir a’ comharrachadh còig bliadhna fichead le Kirsteen aig an stiùir. Seo Kerr Gibb.

[Kerr Gibb – Neach-aithris] Còisir Ghàidhlig Ìleach Ghlaschu aig a’ Mhòd Nàiseanta an Inbhir Nis an-uiridh. Tha obair dhìleas ga dhèanamh fad mhìosan ro gach Mòd is cuirm eile, agus airson còig bliadhna air fhichead a-nis, tha Kirsteen Ghrannd air a bhith os cionn ullachaidh na còisir. An-dèidh ùine cho fada saoil a bheil i a’ faireachdainn uallach fhathast?

[Kirsteen Ghrannd] Oh a h-uile uair.

Tha mi eòlach air a h-uile duine sa chòisir agus an teaghlach aca ‘s tha sinn uile, nuair a tha duine tinn no duine bochd tha sinn uile a’ cuideachadh agus ‘s toil leinn seinn cuideachd.

[Kerr Gibb – Neach-aithris] Fo stiùir Kirsteen tha a’ Chòisir air Sgiath MhicShimidh is Thulaich Bhàrdainn a ghleidheadh trì tursan am measg iomadh duais eile. Sheinn iad aig Fèis Nàiseanta Eisteddfodd sa Chuimrigh, aig Mòd Vancouver agus nuair a bha seachd mile san luchd-èisteachd aig Caisteal Shruighlea còmhla ri Runrig. Tha buill na còisir a’ faicinn cho fortanach ‘s a tha iad stiùriche cho comasach a bhith aca.

[Catriona NicNèill] ‘S e stiùiriche sgoinneil a th’ innte, tha i math air smachd a chumail air a’ chòisir agus chan eil sin furasta, uaireannan. Ach tha i dèanamh deagh oidhirp co-dhiù agus tha mi smaointinn gu bheil sinne gu math fortanach mar chòisir gu bheil stiùiriche mar Kirsteen againn, an t-eòlas a th’aice an chuid air taobh na Gàidhlig cuideachd agus leis a’ cheòl cuideachd. Tha an t-eòlas a th’ aice dìreach sgoinneil ‘s tha sinne cho fortanach.

[Kerr Gibb – Neach-aithris] Bha Consairt bliadhnail na Còisir an t-seachdain sa chaidh agus le Mòd Nàiseanta na bliadhna san Òban agus cuairt le còisirean eile dhan Bhreatainn Bhig san amharc tha gu leòr a chumas Kirsteen is na seinneadairean air fad trang fhathast. Glasgow Islay Choir celebrates 25 years with Kirsteen Grant

[Iain Macinnes – Presenter] In 1990 the Royal National Mod was held in Govan, Glasgow and the city was named the European Capital of Culture. Also that year, Kirsteen Grant took the role as conductor of the Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir and this year the choir celebrates 25 years with Kirsteen at the helm. Here’s Kerr Gibb.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir at the National Mod in Inverness last year. A lot of hard work is undertaken months prior to each Mod and concert, and for 25 years now, Kirsteen Grant has been in charge of preparing the choir. After such a long time does she still feel the pressure?

[Kirsteen Grant] Oh every time. Plenty pressure.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] Kirsteen told me what’s special about the choir and what she from it.

[Kirsteen Grant] We’re all like, one big family perhaps. I know everyone in the choir and their families, when anybody is ill we all help out and we like singing too.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] Under Kirsteen’s guidance the choir has won the Lovat and Tullibardine three times amongst numerous other prizes. They sang at the National Eisteddfodd in Wales, at the Vancouver Mod and to an audience of 7000 at Stirling Castle with Runrig. The choir members feel fortunate to have such a competent conductor.

[Carrie MacNeil] She is a brilliant conductor; she’s good at managing the choir, which sometimes isn’t easy. She puts lots of effort in and I think we’re very lucky as a choir to have Kirsteen with her knowledge of both Gaelic and music. Her experience is brilliant and we’re very fortunate.

[Kerr Gibb – Reporter] The choir’s annual concert was held last week and with this year’s National Mod in Oban and a trip with other choirs to Brittany on the horizon - there’s plenty to keep Kirsteen and all the singers busy. Kerr Gibb, BBC An Là, Glasgow.
