Tha planaichean mòra airson a' Chanàil Chailleannaich a leasachadh

[Iain MacIlleathain - Preseantair] Bidh gu leòr agaibh eòlach, tha mi a’ creidsinn, air Lagan Bhaile Fraoich ann an Inbhir Nis, sin Muirton Basin, faisg air beul a’ Chanàil Chailleannaich. Tha planaichean mòra aig Canàlan na h-Alba agus Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd còmhla airson an sgìre a leasachadh. Gheibh na planaichean sin ceum air adhart an h-ath h-oidhch’ nuair a thòisicheas coinneamhan poblach mun deidhinn anns a’ Mharc-Innis Nis. Seo Ailean MacLeòid.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Bhon a chaidh an Canàl Cailleannach a thogail, bho chionn cheud bliadhna, tha Lagan Baile Fhraoich air a bhith na phàirt fìor chudromach de cheann a tuath a’ chanàil.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Tha mòran a’ cleachdadh an lagain an-dràsta. Eadar an fheadhainn a bhios a’ siubhal gun stad air an t-slighe sìos an canàl, chun an fheadhainn a bhios a’ fuireach an seo fad na bliadhna.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Tha Canàlan na h-Alba agus Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd airson an sgìre a leasachadh ged-thà agus ‘s iad an-dràst’ a’ sireadh bheachdan bhon phoball air na tha iadsan airson fhaicinn an seo san àm ri teachd.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Sa Ghearran, chaidh còrr is ceud gu leth dhe na ciad coinneamhan poblach mun phròiseact. Am measg na chaidh a chur air adhart, bha beachdan airson taigh-tasgaidh a stèidhicheadh do Thòmas Telford a dhealbh an canàl am measg nam pròiseactan ainmeil eile aige. Bha iarrtas ann cuideachd airson gailearaidh-ealain agus taigh-bidh a bhios stèidhichte air bàta. Tha seallaidhean brèagha rim faicinn thar Linne Fharair, ach bha muinntir na sgìre ag iarraidh gun deigheadh pàirceadh a bharrachd a stèidhicheadh faisg air làimh airson a dhèanamh nas fhasa do dhaoine ùine a chur seachad an seo.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Chan e dìreach àiteachan ùra do chàraichean a bhios ann a bharrachd. Tha iad airson leudachadh air an trì fichead àite a th’ ann an-dràsta airson bàtaichean. Chan e dìreach an talamh mu thimcheall a’ chanàil a bhios na planaichean seo a’ gabhail a-steach. Tha sgìre dusan acaire eadar seo agus Abhainn Nis fo shùil an luchd-leasachaidh. Tha iad ag amas air taighean ùra a thogail ann am Baile an Fhraoich agus goireasan spòrs ùr a stèidhicheadh an seo. An chuid ceangailte ri spòrs air an uisge agus ionad spòrs cuideachd. Tha còmhraidhean air a bhith ann mu thràth eadar a’ Chomhairle agus a’ bhuidheann aig a bheil an t-seann bhùth B&Q ri taobh a’ chanàil, is cothrom gum biodh an làrach sin freagarrach airson ionad spòrs.

[Ailean MacLeòid – Neach-aithris] Sa mìos no dhà mu dheireadh, tha a’ Chomhairle agus Canàlan na h-Alba air a bhith a’ sgrùdadh nam beachdan sin uile, feuch planaichean nas mionaidiche a thoirt air adhart aig na coinneamhan poblach. An ath-oidhch, ann am Bun-sgoil Marc-Innis agus an earar ann an ionad coimhearsnachd na sgìre. Bhon uair sin, thig na beachdan air adhart agus bidh na planaichean uile ri fhaicinn ro dheireadh na h-Ògmhios. Ailean MacLeoid, BBC An Là, Inbhir Nis.

Big plans to develop the Caledonian Canal

[Iain MacLean - Presenter] Many of you will know, I think, that Lagan Bhaile Fraoich in Inverness, that’s the Muirton Basin, close to the mouth of the Caledonian Canal. Scottish Canals have big plans together with Highland Council to develop the area. Those plans will take a step forward tomorrow night when the public consultations about the, start in Merkinch, Inverness. Here’s Allan MacLeod.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] Since the Caledonian Canal was built, over 200 years, the Muirtown Basin has been an important part of the north end of the Canal.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] Many use the basin today. Between those that travel without stopping on the way down the canal, to those who live here all year.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] Scottish Canals and Highland Council want to develop the area although and they are now seeking views from the public on what they want to see here in the future.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] In February, more than 150 went to the first public consultations about the project. Amongst what was put forward, there were ideas to set up a Thomas Telford museum who designed the canal amongst his other famous projects. There was a request too for an art gallery and a restaurant to be based on a boat. There are beautiful views to be seen across to the Beauly Firth, but the people of the area wanted more parking to be created nearby to make it easier for people to spend time here.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] It is not only new places for cars that will be there too, They want to expand the 60 places for boats. It is not just the land around the canal that these plans will look at. An area of 12 acres between here and the River Ness will be under the eyes of the developers. They aim to build new houses in Muirton and to set up new sports resources here. Two things linked to sports on the water and a sports hall too. There are already been discussion between the council and the group who have the old B&Q shop beside the canal and there is a chance that this area would be suitable for a sports hall.

[Allan MacLeod – Reporter] In the last month or two, the council and Scottish Canals have been looking at all those ideas to try and bring forward more exact plans to the public consultations. Tomorrow night, in Merkinch Primary School and the day after tomorrow in the local community hall. From then, the views will come forward and the plans will all be seen at the end of June. Allan MacLeod, BBC An Là, Inverness.
