Fraser Docherty gives advice to pupils
[Iain MacLean - Presenter] A wee bit of jam just now. The person who started the company Superjam, Fraser Docherty, has been giving advice to pupils from Sir E Scott and he Nicolson Institute. He started his own business when he was fourteen years old. It was the group Include Us who invited him to the island. Here’s Ruaraidh Munro.
[Ruaraidh Munro – Reporter] Fraser Docherty began to make jam when he was fourteen years old with his grandmother’s secret recipe. Ten years on and his Superjam is selling all over the world and in all the large stores. In spite of his very busy schedule, he had time to give advice to the next generation.
[Fraser Docherty] I love being able to kind of talk to kids who are fourteen, fifteen, sixteen and at that stage that I was when I first realised I wanted to start my own business. [Donald MacSween] I think the way that Fraser spoke today, it was as fit as it could be to our youth in the Nicolson Institute and Sir E Scott, that they were seeing someone young, who is only 24 years old. And I think he showed to them that it is not just old people who work in an office who wear a suit everyday; that they are the only people who work in business; that any person can do something and you don’t have to do something, you don’t have to come up with something difficult.
[Ruaraidh Munro – Reporter]But what did the audience think of Mr Docherty’s message?
[Girl] When I leave school, I want to do something with business, it will be interesting and it will be good.
[Ruaraidh Munro – Reporter] There was also advice from Mr Docherty about the difficulties that could have an impact on the young businesspeople.
