Taisbeanadh ùr air fosgladh aig Taigh-tasgaidh Gheàrrloich

[Iain MacIlleathain - Preseantair] Tha taisbeanadh ùr air fosgladh aig Taigh-tasgaidh Gheàrrloich a tha a’ mìneachadh eachdraidh na sgìre tro sgeulachdan nan daoine fhèin. Dh’ fhosgail e air an deireadh-sheachdain-sa chaidh agus chithear ann sealladh air mar a tha an sgìre ag atharrachadh a thaobh a’ chànain, obair an fhearainn agus an iasgaich, agus fiù ‘s nach do lorg iad seann bhaile a bh’ air a dhol à dìochuimhn’, air dìochuimhn’, gabh mo leisgeul. Mar a tha Dòmhnall MacLaomainn a-nis ag aithris.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn – Neach-aithris] Am fear as sine agus am fear as òige, a ghabh pàirt anns a’ phròiseact seo, le pìobaireachd air taobh a-muigh Taigh-tasgaidh Gheàrrloich, ‘s muinntir na sgìre air bhioran gus am fosgail an taisbeanadh ùr-sa, a thug bhliadhna agus a fhuair cuideachadh bho iomadach neach gus an do ràinig e an ìre sa, taisbeanadh do dh’ eachdraidh nan daoine fhèin.

[Ruairidh MacCoinnich] Ò, tha sinne air ar fìor dhòigh leis, tha e glè inntinneach a bhith a’ faicinn na th’ air a dhèanamh anns an sgìre ann an seo, timcheall nam bailtean beaga uile gu lèir. Tha e math a bhith a’ faicinn sin dèante, ‘s tha sinn toilichte gu bheil daoine ann a tha a’ gabhail ùidh anns an leithid de rud.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn – Neach-aithris] Tha dòigh-beatha na sgìre air atharrachadh gu tur ann an ùine an ìre mhath goirid, bha faireachdainn ann gum feumadh iad clàradh na b’ urrainn dhaibh.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn – Neach-aithris] Cha bhiodh am pròiseact seo comasach gun cuideachadh bhon choimhearsnachd, le grunn dhiubh a’ tabhann seann dhealbhan agus seann sgeulachdan. Mar eisimpleir, seo na thabhainn Ruairidh.

[Ruairidh MacCoinnich] Dh’ inns mi mar a bha cùisean nuair a bha mi a’ fàs suas anns a’ bhaile, fhios agad, o làithean na sgoile suas gun an do dh’ fhàg mi am baile, ceart gu leòr, dh’ inns mi mar a bha dòigh-beatha, is mar a bha e cho duilich, rudan a dhèanamh an taca ri mar a tha e an-diugh.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn – Neach-aithris] Chan e a-mhàin seann dhòighean-beatha a thàinig gu bàrr, fiù ‘s nach deach lorg air seann bhaile aig nach robh fhios aig mòran leis an ainm Alt an Tarsainn.

[Uilleam MacRaibeirt] Agus, tha mòran, cha robh fhios aca, cha chuala iad riamh mu dheidhinn ‘s e Alt an Tarsainn a bh’ air a’ bhaile beag a bh’ ann agus tha Alt a’ tighinn a-mach à Loch na Bèiste agus a’ dol a-steach dha Allt Idrigill aig dìreach air an tarsainn agus ‘s ann bhon sin a thug iad an t-ainm, tha mi a’ smaointinn.

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn – Neach-aithris] Ged a tha an taisbeanadh mu sheann làithean na sgìre, a rèir Uilleim, tha teachdaireachd air leth làidir ann dhan òigridh cuideachd.

[Uilleam MacRaibeirt] Uill tha mòran dhen òigridh an-dràsta, na h-oghaichean agam fhèin bidh iadsan a’ smaoineachadh History is bunk ach tha mise dhen bheachd, mura h-eil fhios agad às a thàinig thu ciamar a tha fhios agad càite bheil thu a’ dol?

[Dòmhnall MacLaomainn – Neach-aithris] Dòmhnall MacLaomainn, BBC An Là, Geàrrloch.

A new exhibition has opened in the Gairloch Museum

[Iain MacLean - Presenter] A new exhibition has opened in Gairloch Museum which defines the history of the area through stories of the people themselves. It opened last weekend you can get a sense of how the area has changed regarding language, working the land and fishing and even how they didn’t find an old forgotten town. As Donald Lamont now reports.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] The oldest person and the youngest person who took part in this project, with piping outside Gairloch Museum, the people of the area excited for the opening of this new ceremony, which took two years and got help from various people until it came to this level, an exhibition of the people themselves.

[Roddy MacKenzie] Oh, we are very happy with it, it is really interesting to see what has been done in this area, around all the small areas. It is good to see that finished, and we are happy that there are people who are interested in a thing like that.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] The way of life has totally changed in a very short time; there was a feeling that they should record what they could.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] This project would not be possible without help from the community with many offering old pictures and old stories. For example, this is what Roddy offered.

[Roddy MacKenzie] I told them how matters were when I was growing up in the town, you know, from school days up to when I left the town, right enough, I told them how the way of life was, how hard it was to do things compared to today.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] It’s not only old ways of life that came to light, even that they could not find an old village that was unknown to many with the name Allt an Tarsainn (Brook of Crossing).

[William MacRoberts] And there are many, they know, they have never even heard about it, Allt an Tarsainn was the name of the little village and the Allt comes from Loch na Bèiste and that goes into Allt Idrigill just at the crossing and that’s where the name came from, I think.

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] Although the exhibition is about the old days of the area, according to William, there is a very strong message for the young folk too.

[William MacRoberts] Well, many of the youth of today, my grandchildren, they think history is bunk, but I am of the opinion that if you do not know where you came from how do you know where you are going?

[Donald Lamont – Reporter] Donald Lamont, BBC An Là, Gairloch.
