[Rona Dhòmhnallach] We had a lot of work to do in proving to the European Commission that our product was significantly different from other black puddings that are being produced elsewhere. So we did a lot of work on what makes our product special on the quality of the ingredients that go into it and what differentiates it from black pudding that has been made anywhere else in the world.
[Ross MacRath] Well, it’s probably one of the best things that you can probably have, I means it’s ideal for breakfast, lunch, dinner, technically not a snack, but well it’s the island way.

European protection for Black pudding
[Angela MacLean – Presenter] Stornoway black puddimg now has European protection. It means that people can not say that they have black pudding from Stornoway for sale if that is not true. As Angus Macdonald reports, there is hope it will give new strength to the market.
[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] There is lots of food that is famous from champagne, cheeses, beer to meat. And now, there is a food from Stornoway, which started as food for poor people, where nothing was thrown out, that has the same status.
[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] This is what butchers from Stornoway have been struggling for nearly five years – black pudding. And certainly, it is good! And they have recognition in the Europe.
