[Màiri] Is suarach agam sgona gun silidh a rinn mi fhèin orra.

[Màiri] Cha chreid thu cho furasta ’s a tha seo. Tha mi air subh-làirean a thogail, feadhainn sam bith air an robh bualadh no nach robh a’ coimhead ro mhath, tha mi air an cur gu aon taobh. Cha robh mi a’ dol gan cleachdadh idir. Tha sin cudromach, gun cleachd thu na measan as fheàrr a th’ ann.

[Màiri] Nis, tha dà phunnd gu leth measan ann an seo agus tha mi dìreach a’ dol gam pronnadh, dìreach cho math ’s a thèid agam air a dhèanamh.

[Màiri] Tha sin gu math bog a-nis agus tha mi a’ dol a chur dà phunnd siùcair agus sùgh aon liomain còmhla ris na measan. Tha mi a’ dol a chur seo uile timcheall. A’ dol ga theasachadh dìreach gus am bi e a’ goil. Bheir seo còig, deich mionaidean mus tig e chun an teas cheart.

Mairi’s jam

English Beurla

[Mairi] I don’t care for a scone unless it has jam I made on it.

[Mairi] You won’t believe how easy this is. I have picked strawberries, any ones that have a bruise or don’t look too good, you have put them to one side. I don’t use them at all. That is important, that you use the best fruit there is.

[Mairi] Now, I have two and a half poundsof fruit here and I am just going to mash them just as well as I can.

[Mairi] That is very soft now and I am going to add two pounds of sugar and the juice of one lemon with the fruit. I am going to mix all this together. Going to heat it just until it boils. This will take five, ten minutes until it comes to the correct temperature.

[Mairi] I am now adding six whole fruits, just so that there will be chunks in the jam. It will be a bit thicker. And I am going to let it boil for quarter of an hour, just stirring it now and again until it gets thick enough.

[Mairi] Now, I would say that that is almost finished. If you push the jam with your finger, wrinkles will appear in the jam and that is happening.

[Mairi] Now then. This is finished and there is a sort of pink froth on the top of the pan and I am just taking that off.

[Mairi] I am now going to pour it out. I have two jars here.

[Mairi] That is now, just let it cool before I put covers or anything on. I will let it cool. It is a brilliant colour and the smell, it’s a shame that you can’t experience the smell. It is exceptionally good.

[Mairi] Brilliant, even though I say so myself. Brilliant.
